IIT (ISM) Dhanbad Scientific Administrative Assistant / Field Investigator Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post

Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines) Dhanbad, one of India's oldest and most prestigious technical institutions, has invited applications for 1 Scientific Administrative Assistant / Field Investigator position under the CMPDI (Coal India Limited) sponsored project titled "Development of Energy Efficient Ergonomically Designed (EEED) Chair Lift Man Riding System". This is a project-based role in a cutting-edge mining safety research project. If you are a Mechanical Engineering graduate or postgraduate with interest in hydraulic systems and mining machinery, this could be a great research opportunity for you.

Who Can Apply?

Essential Qualification:

  • Education: B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from a recognised university
  • Experience: Minimum 3 years of research, project, or field experience in the design, modelling, and analysis of hydraulic systems
  • You should also have a sound understanding of mining machinery and their operational aspects

Desirable Qualification:

  • M.Tech in Mining Machinery Engineering or M.Tech in Mechanical Engineering (Machine Design)
  • Minimum first class or equivalent grade in both B.Tech and M.Tech
  • Candidates with good-quality SCI/SCIE-indexed research publications in relevant fields will be given preference

Age Limit

  • Upper age limit is 35 years as on 01 April 2026
  • Age Relaxation: SC/ST/OBC candidates will get relaxation as per Government of India norms (valid certificates from authorised agencies required)
  • Age relaxation may also be considered for suitably qualified and experienced candidates upon recommendation of the selection committee

Salary

  • You will receive a fellowship of Rs. 18,000 per month
  • This is a project-based position under the CMPDI (CIL) sponsored project
  • The tenure is until 30 June 2026 or completion of field work, whichever comes first

Selection Process

The selection will be done in 2 stages:

  1. Shortlisting: Candidates will be shortlisted based on merit and the project's specific requirements. Having the minimum qualification alone does not guarantee an interview call.
  2. Online Interview: Shortlisted candidates will be called for an online interview. The interview date will be communicated separately.

Responsibilities

  • Work on modelling and performance analysis of the proposed energy-efficient hydraulic system for the Chairlift Man-Riding System (CMRS)
  • Handle system design validation, simulation, and optimisation of hydraulic performance under varying operating conditions
  • Conduct experimental investigations on the developed setup to evaluate system efficiency and reliability
  • Carry out field trials at the mine site to assess real-world performance of the system
  • Identify operational challenges during field work and recommend improvements
  • Prepare proper documentation, data analysis reports, and project deliverables in line with project objectives
  • Assist the Principal Investigator in research activities related to mining machinery and hydraulic systems

Eligibility Criteria

Minimum Qualification

B.Tech (Mechanical Engineering) with 3 years experience in hydraulic systems

Preferred Qualification

M.Tech in Mining Machinery Engineering or Mechanical Engineering (Machine Design) with first class. SCI/SCIE publications preferred.

Required Skills

Hydraulic systems design and analysis, mining machinery knowledge, simulation and modelling, field investigation

Age Limit

18 - 35 years (as on 01 Apr 2026)
