IIT Gandhinagar Registrar Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post
Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IIT Gandhinagar), established in 2008 at Palaj, Gandhinagar, Gujarat, is one of India's premier Institutes of National Importance under the Ministry of Education. The institute has announced recruitment for the post of Registrar under Advertisement No. IITGN/STAFF/RECT/01/2026-27. The appointment is on a 5-year contract basis, renewable for a similar term or until the age of superannuation, whichever is earlier. This is a senior administrative leadership role suitable for experienced professionals in higher education administration.
Who Can Apply?
Direct Recruitment
- Qualification: Master's degree with at least 55% marks in aggregate or equivalent grade from a recognized university.
- Experience (Option 1): At least 15 years of administrative experience in HR/Administration/Education, out of which 8 years should be as Deputy Registrar or an equivalent post in Pay Level 12 or higher.
- Experience (Option 2): At least 15 years of experience as Assistant Professor in Academic Pay Level 11 or higher, with adequate experience in academic administration.
- Experience (Option 3): At least 8 years of experience as Assistant/Associate Professor in Academic Pay Level 12 or higher, with considerable experience in administration at institutions of higher education or research.
Deputation Basis
- Officers from Central/State Government, Universities, Recognized Research Institutes, or Institutes of National Importance holding an analogous post.
- OR officers with at least 3 years of regular administrative service in posts with Pay Level 13 or equivalent.
Desirable Qualifications
- First-class (60% or above) academic record from 10th standard onwards.
- Additional degree or diploma in Law or Management from a recognized university.
- Proven ability in administration at a large educational, research, or financial institution.
- Competence in computer skills and all forms of communication.
Age Limit
- Maximum age: 58 years as on the closing date of receipt of online application (30 April 2026).
- For Direct Recruitment, candidates aged 57 years or less will be preferred, provided they are otherwise eligible.
- Age relaxation is admissible as per Government of India rules for SC/ST/OBC/PwBD/Ex-Servicemen categories.
Salary
- Pay Level 14: Rs. 1,44,200 to Rs. 2,18,200 per month (basic pay).
- Minimum pay on joining: Rs. 1,44,200 per month.
- You will also get DA, HRA, Transport Allowance and other usual admissible allowances as per Central Government rules.
- The total in-hand salary including allowances can be significantly higher depending on the city and your pay level within the band.

Responsibilities
- Oversee all administrative functions of the Institute including HR, finance, and general administration
- Manage academic and non-academic staff and coordinate with the Director, Senate, and Board of Governors
- Handle custody of records, common seal, funds, and other Institute property as entrusted by the Board
- Prepare and issue notices for meetings of Institute authorities, committees, and sub-committees
- Submit statutory reports and data to the Ministry of Education and other government agencies
- Lead administration in a residential R&D institution with responsibility for campus management
- Maintain records of all important functions and activities of the Institute
Eligibility Criteria
Minimum Qualification
Master's degree with at least 55% marks and 15 years of administrative experience
Preferred Qualification
First-class academic record from 10th onwards. Degree or diploma in Law/Management. Proven ability in administration at a large educational or research institution. Computer skills.
