The Research & Development Office of Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IIT Gandhinagar) has released Advertisement No. SPON/70112/Advt0203 for a temporary Postdoctoral Fellow position in the Chemistry Department. The project is titled "Small Molecule Activation at the Low-valent Metal Complexes". The position is initially for 1 year and follows IIT Gandhinagar Institute Norms. Ph.D. holders in Chemistry with experience in Schlenk and Glove Box techniques are encouraged to apply.

Who Can Apply?

Essential Qualification

• Ph.D. in Chemistry (thesis submitted or degree awarded) from a reputed institute in India
• Minimum 60% marks or equivalent grade from Graduation onward
• Minimum 55% marks in Class 10 and Class 12

Desirable Qualification / Experience

• Experience in Schlenk and Glove Box techniques is highly preferred
• Experience in synthesis of main group or organometallic compounds and their analysis with state-of-the-art analytical techniques
• Good project management and communication skills

Age Limit

• Maximum age: 32 years as on the last date of submitting the application (10 June 2026)

Salary

• Consolidated monthly remuneration including HRA: Rs. 72,000 per month
• House Rent Allowance (if applicable): Rs. 11,100 per month
• Salary is as per IIT Gandhinagar Institute Norms

Selection Process (No Written Exam)

Selection is based on academic credentials and interview:

1. Application Screening: Shortlisting based on essential and desirable qualifications, research experience, and publications.
2. Interview: Shortlisted candidates will be called for interview (may be online or in-person) before the selection panel led by the Principal Investigator.
3. Document Verification: Verification of Ph.D., academic records, and identity documents.

• Design and synthesise low-valent metal complexes for activating small molecules such as N2, H2, NH3, CO, CO2 and ethylene
• Carry out air-sensitive synthesis using Schlenk line and Glove Box techniques
• Characterise compounds using state-of-the-art analytical methods including NMR, X-ray crystallography, and mass spectrometry
• Train new M.Sc. and Ph.D. students working in the research group
• Write research manuscripts and prepare them for publication in peer-reviewed journals
• Maintain detailed laboratory records and research notebooks
• Present research progress at group meetings and conferences
• Help in writing project reports and grant proposals when needed
