The last date to apply is 8 July 2026. The fellowship goes up to Rs. 36,000 per month and the post is initially for 6 months, extendable. The job is based at the IIT Gandhinagar campus in Palaj, Gandhinagar, Gujarat.

IIT Gandhinagar JRF Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post

The Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IIT Gandhinagar) has released a notification (Advt. No. SPON/62051/Advt0242, dated 1 July 2026) to fill 1 Junior Research Fellow post under Principal Investigator Prof. Sharad Gupta. The work is part of a research project on targeted protein degradation of TDP43 and the development of therapeutics against triple-negative breast cancer. IIT Gandhinagar is one of India's leading technology institutes with a strong research culture, so this role is a valuable stepping stone if you plan to do a Ph.D. or build a career in biomedical research.

This is a temporary position for 6 months from the date of joining, and it can be extended based on your performance and the needs of the project. Because it is a project (contract) role, it is a good fit if you want focused, full-time research experience for a fixed period rather than a permanent post. Pay and eligibility follow the funding agency norms.

What You Will Work On

As the JRF, you will support lab work that studies how a protein called TDP43 can be targeted and broken down, with the goal of building new treatments for triple-negative breast cancer. Day to day, you will set up and maintain mammalian cell cultures, run transfection and cell-based assays, prepare samples and carry out fluorescence imaging and quantitative image analysis. You will also organise research data, keep proper lab records and help the laboratory run smoothly. This is a hands-on bench role, so you will spend most of your time in the lab working with live cells and imaging equipment.

Who Can Apply?

  • Qualification: You must have a Post Graduate degree in a Basic Science, OR a Graduate/Post Graduate degree in a professional course such as B.Tech, M.Tech, B.Sc or M.Sc (or an equivalent degree) in Biotechnology, Biological Sciences, Biomedical Engineering, Chemistry or a related discipline.
  • How you qualified: You should have been selected through CSIR-UGC NET (including Lectureship/Assistant Professorship) or GATE, or through a national-level exam conducted by central government bodies such as DST, DBT, DAE, DOS, DRDO, MoE, ICAR, ICMR, IIT, IISc, IISER or NISER.

Skills That Give You an Edge

  • Hands-on experience with mammalian cell culture and cell-based assays
  • Experience with fluorescence microscopy and image analysis
  • Good communication skills

Salary

  • If you have qualified GATE or NET: Rs. 36,000 per month (this consolidated amount includes an HRA component of Rs. 5,000).
  • If you have not qualified GATE or NET: Rs. 23,213 per month.
  • The pay is a consolidated monthly fellowship fixed as per funding agency norms.

Selection Process (No Written Exam)

There is no written exam for this JRF post. The steps are simple:

  1. Application screening: The team checks your degree, your NET/GATE (or equivalent) status and any relevant lab experience.
  2. Interview: Shortlisted candidates are called for an interview, where your research knowledge and lab skills are judged. The interview may be held online or in person, and the institute will inform you of the date and mode.

Your final selection depends on how you do in the interview along with your academic and research background. Keep your original certificates ready for verification.
