IIT BHU JRA Electrical Engineering Recruitment 2026: Overview

Indian Institute of Technology (BHU) Varanasi is hiring a Junior Research Assistant in its Department of Electrical Engineering for a project sponsored by the Council of Science and Technology, Uttar Pradesh. The project, Development of an AI-Enabled Platform for Remote Condition Monitoring of Overhead Power Transmission Line Insulators, brings together electrical sensing, embedded hardware and machine learning to identify the condition of insulators without relying only on close physical inspection.

The researcher will work with laboratory and field-acquired data from power-system equipment and help turn it into a usable monitoring platform. This makes the role particularly relevant if you want practical research exposure across artificial intelligence, signal or image analysis, sensing and high-voltage engineering instead of work limited to one narrow software or hardware task.

Service Conditions and Caveats

  • Project appointment: The position is purely temporary and ends with the sponsored project.
  • Tenure: The first appointment is for one year and may be extended for up to another two years based on performance.
  • Residency: CSTUP funding rules limit the position to Indian citizens who are residents of Uttar Pradesh.
  • Joining: The selected researcher is expected to join immediately.
  • Shortlisting: The principal investigator may limit interview calls by considering qualifications and experience above the minimum stated in the notice.
  • Travel support: IIT (BHU) will not pay TA or DA for attending the interview.
  • Communication: Only shortlisted applicants will receive interview information by email.

The project is led by Dr. Arup Kumar Das, Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering. Responsibilities

  • Perform laboratory data acquisition using high-voltage systems and test setups
  • Design AI and machine-learning models for fault and condition detection
  • Process signal, image and sensor data collected during the project
  • Assist with sensor design, embedded-system integration and equipment setup
  • Support field trials and organise the data gathered from testing
  • Prepare technical records and help with project administration

Eligibility Criteria

Minimum Qualification

B.E./B.Tech in Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, Computer Science Engineering, or an allied branch with at least 60% marks or equivalent grade

Preferred Qualification

Valid GATE score in EE, EC, CS or AI, or another national-level eligibility examination in the relevant discipline

Required Skills

Artificial intelligence and machine-learning model development, signal and image processing, Python programming, sensor design, embedded systems, and high-voltage systems
