Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Thiruvananthapuram JRF Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post
Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Thiruvananthapuram (IISER TVM) has released a project recruitment notice for a Junior Research Fellow in Particle Physics. The post is under the project Towards optimality - an effective window to new physics, funded by the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF). This is a contract research position, so it is useful for Physics postgraduates who want funded research experience before a Ph.D. or a longer research career.
The notice says the initial tenure is one year, and it can be extended up to the completion of the project based on performance. The appointment is project-linked and temporary, so it does not create a claim for a regular IISER TVM post. If your research interest is in particle physics and new physics searches, this opening gives you a chance to work in a focused academic research environment at the Vithura campus near Thiruvananthapuram.
Who Can Apply?
- Qualification: You need a postgraduate degree in Physics with first class (60%) or 6.5 CGPA, as prescribed by the funding agency.
- National eligibility route: You should have cleared CSIR-UGC NET including LS, GATE in Physical Sciences, or another accepted national-level selection process run by central government departments, agencies or institutions.
- IISER/IIT/IISc route: BS-MS, M.Sc or Integrated M.Sc students from IISERs, IITs or IISc can also be considered if they have a CGPA of 8 or above on a 10-point scale.
- Degree recognition: Your qualifying degree must be from a recognised university or institution.
- Shortlisting note: Meeting the minimum qualification does not automatically guarantee an interview call; IISER TVM can shortlist using higher qualification and experience details.
Age Limit
- Maximum age: below 28 years.
- The notice does not give a separate age reference date, so you should keep proof of date of birth ready while applying.
- Any relaxation, if applicable, will follow the funding agency and Government of India rules used by IISER TVM.
Salary
- First and second year: Rs. 37,000 per month plus HRA.
- Third year: Rs. 42,000 per month plus HRA, if the fellowship continues and the project rules allow it.
- Allowances: HRA is payable as per the project/funding agency norms mentioned in the notice.
- Tenure: Initial appointment is for one year, extendable based on performance up to the completion of the project.
Project fit matters: Since this is a specialised particle physics project, keep your application focused on Physics training, research exposure, programming or analysis skills, and any dissertation work related to high-energy physics, theory or computation. IISER TVM can use these details while shortlisting because the notice says qualifications and experience above the minimum may be considered.
Selection Process (No Written Exam)
IISER TVM will shortlist applicants and send interview information by email to those selected for the next stage. The readable notice does not mention any written test, question paper or exam pattern.
- Email Application Screening: The selection committee checks your Physics qualification, eligibility test route, academic record and project fit.
- Shortlisting: If many applications are received, IISER TVM can shortlist applicants using qualifications and experience above the minimum requirement.
- Interview: Shortlisted applicants will get interview details by email.
- Document Verification: Selected applicants must submit the signed printed application form, photograph, photocopies of certificates and original certificates for verification.
How to Apply
- Prepare your application for the Junior Research Fellow in Particle Physics post.
- Include your full academic details, Physics qualification, NET/GATE or equivalent eligibility proof, and any research experience.
- Attach the required documents as asked in the notice or application format.
- Email the application to tanumoy@iisertvm.ac.in.
- Send the email before 30 June 2026.
- Keep your email active because interview details will be sent only to shortlisted applicants.
- If selected, carry originals and one photocopy set of all certificates for institute verification.
Document tip: Keep your degree certificate, marksheets, NET/GATE proof, proof of age, photograph and any research certificates in one folder. The notice says selected applicants must submit certificate copies and also show originals, so missing documents can delay joining even after selection.
