Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM), Ministry of Mines, is recruiting Assistant Controller of Mines through Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Advertisement No. 05/2026. This is a permanent Group A Gazetted, Non-Ministerial post with headquarters at Nagpur, Maharashtra and all-India service liability. Who Can Apply?

For B.E. / B.Tech Mining Engineering Candidates

  • Qualification: You need a Bachelor of Engineering or Bachelor of Technology in Mining Engineering from a recognised university or institution.

  • Accepted experience: Work in a managerial position in metalliferous non-coal mines, including graduate trainee, management trainee or junior trainee engineer period, is accepted.
  • Government experience route: Experience in a government department dealing with mines and minerals at Pay Level 7 (Rs. 44,900-1,42,400) or above is also accepted.

For M.E. / M.Tech Mining Engineering Candidates

  • Qualification: You need a Master of Engineering or Master of Technology in Mining Engineering from a recognised university or institution.
  • Experience: You need 1 year of core mining activity experience in the same accepted mining or government department areas.

UPSC may relax qualification or experience rules only as allowed in the official advertisement, especially for otherwise well-qualified candidates or reserved category vacancies.

Age Limit

  • UR candidates: Maximum age is 35 years.
  • SC / ST candidates: Maximum age is 40 years.
  • PwBD candidates: Age is relaxable by up to 10 years, subject to the rules in the advertisement.

Salary

  • Check mine environmental protection work under applicable mining rules
  • Advise mine owners on drone survey, satellite imagery and suitable mining technology
  • Review mining plans and monitor approved mining activities
  • Guide use of sub-grade ore, mineral rejects and beneficiation methods
  • Update and monitor Mining Tenement System modules in the regional office
  • Prepare inspection notes, reports and technical recommendations for IBM
