The Indian Air Force (IAF) is hiring male candidates for the Airmen Medical Assistant trade under Group 'Y' (Non-Technical), Airmen Intake 02/2027. Indian Air Force (IAF) Airmen Medical Assistant Recruitment 2026
The IAF has opened online registration for male Indian citizens and Gorkha (Nepal) candidates who want to join as Airmen in the Group 'Y' Medical Assistant trade. The Phase-I online written exam will be held on 22 and 23 September 2026 at centres across the country. This entry accepts both 10+2 pass candidates and Diploma/Pharmacy graduates, so check which qualification track applies to you before you apply.
As a Medical Assistant, you will be trained in nursing and first-aid, and posted at Air Force hospitals, medical inspection rooms, and stations as per service requirements. Once your trade is allotted, it will not be changed on your request. Selected candidates serve an initial tenure of 20 years, extendable up to the age of 57 years, subject to service conditions. Unmarried candidates cannot get married until they finish their initial training.
Who Can Apply?
For 10+2 / Intermediate Pass Candidates:
- Qualification: You should have passed 10+2/Intermediate or an equivalent exam, including a recognised vocational course.
- Date of Birth: You must be unmarried and born between 1 July 2006 and 1 July 2010 (both dates included).
For Diploma / B.Pharma / B.Sc (Pharmacy) Candidates:
- Qualification: You should hold a Diploma, B.Pharma, or B.Sc in Pharmacy from a recognised institute.
- Date of Birth (Unmarried): Born between 1 July 2003 and 1 July 2008.
- Date of Birth (Married): Born between 1 July 2003 and 1 July 2006.
Only male Indian citizens and Gorkha subjects of Nepal can apply for this trade.
Age Limit
- For 10+2 pass candidates, the upper age limit as on the date of enrolment is 21 years.
- For Diploma/B.Pharma/B.Sc (Pharmacy) holders, the upper age limit as on the date of enrolment is 24 years.
- Your eligibility depends on your exact date of birth falling within the ranges given above, not simply your age in years.
Salary
- During training, you get a stipend of Rs. 14,600 per month.
- After training, your starting gross salary (including Military Service Pay) is Rs. 26,900 per month, plus Dearness Allowance that rises with your career progression.
- You also get Transport Allowance, Composite Personal Maintenance Allowance, Leave Ration Allowance, Children Education Allowance, HRA, and other allowances as per government rules.
- Other benefits include free ration, clothing, medical care, accommodation, CSD canteen facility, 60 days annual leave plus 30 days casual leave, Leave Travel Concession, a Group Insurance cover of Rs. 62.5 lakh, and a Group Housing Scheme.
Selection Process
The selection happens in these stages:
- Phase-I Online Written Exam: Held on 22-23 September 2026 at various centres. This is a computer-based screening test.
- Phase-II Testing and Document Verification: Candidates who clear Phase-I are called for further testing, where your original documents (admit card, certificates, NCC certificate if any, discharge certificate if applicable) are checked.
- Medical Examination: You must be declared medically fit to be enrolled.
- Provisional Select List (PSL): A merit list based on your Phase-II performance and available vacancies is expected in the last week of May 2027.
- Enrolment List: The final list of candidates called for enrolment will be published on 1 June 2027, and an e-Call letter is sent to your registered email.
After enrolment, you go through Joint Basic Phase Training (JBPT) followed by trade-specific training in nursing and first-aid.

Responsibilities
- Provide first-aid and basic nursing care to Air Force personnel at the medical inspection room
- Assist medical officers during treatment, rounds, and routine health check-ups
- Maintain medical records, registers, and stock of medicines
- Support health screening, vaccination, and hygiene programmes at the Air Force station
- Respond to medical emergencies during training and operational duties
- Follow military discipline, physical fitness routines, and safety protocols
- Undergo specialised trade training and periodic refresher medical courses
- Assist in maintaining sanitation and hygiene standards at Air Force premises
