DAO Gumla Crop Guard Recruitment 2026: Overview

The Office of the District Agriculture Officer (DAO), Gumla, working under Jharkhand's Department of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Co-operative, is selecting Crop Guards (Fasal Rakshak / Kamdar) for its plant protection centres. The idea is simple: the state wants trained local people in the field who can spot pest attacks early and help farmers protect their crops.

The posts are spread across the block-level plant protection centres of Gumla district, including Gumla Sadar, Ghaghra, Bishunpur, Sisai, Bharno, Palkot, Basia, Kamdara and Chainpur. This is an honorarium-based engagement, not a regular government job. You work for one year or until regular appointments are made on these posts, whichever comes first.

The drive is meant for young people from Gumla who know farming, are comfortable working outdoors and can talk to farmers in the local language. If you have already attended a short training run by the state's agriculture or horticulture directorate, your training certificate carries real weight in the merit list.

Service Conditions and Caveats

  • Gumla residents only: You must be a local resident of Gumla district and attach a valid local residence certificate issued by the competent authority.
  • No claim to a permanent job: The engagement is purely honorarium-based. It gives you no automatic right to regularisation, confirmation or the service benefits of a regular government employee.
  • Training must come from the right offices: Only certificates issued by offices under the Directorate of Agriculture or Directorate of Horticulture, Jharkhand are accepted. Training shorter than five days is not counted in the merit list, and the length is taken from the full training days written on the certificate.
  • No extra marks for extra degrees: Holding more than one qualification at the same level earns no additional marks. Where a board awards grades, its own conversion formula is used to work out your percentage.
  • Tie-breaking: If two candidates score the same, the one with higher Class 10 marks ranks first, then the older candidate, then alphabetical order of name.
  • Joining on time: You must join within the period set by the District Agriculture Officer. If you do not, your selection lapses and the post can go to the waiting list.
  • When the contract can end: It can end if regular appointments are made, the sanctioned post is abolished, or administrative need arises. False information or fake certificates can lead to termination and disciplinary action even after selection.
  • Centre allotment: The District Agriculture Officer can change the number of posts, the plant protection centre or sub-centre you are posted to, or any stage of the selection.
  • Character certificate: You do not need to attach it with the form, but you must submit it at document verification or at the time of joining.

Application Submission Notes

Fill in the prescribed application form attached to the notice and attach self-attested copies of all your certificates. Send it by registered post or speed post to The District Agriculture Officer, Gumla, Joint District Agriculture Office Campus, Post and District Gumla, Jharkhand. The form must reach the office by 5:00 PM on the closing day; late forms are not accepted.

You can also hand in the form yourself at the District Agriculture Office, Gumla, between 10:00 AM and 5:00 PM during office hours. Forms without the required self-attested copies are treated as invalid. Results, document verification notices and other updates will be posted on www.gumla.nic.in, so keep checking it.

Responsibilities

  • Survey crops in the assigned block to spot pest and disease attacks early
  • Spray pesticides in farmers' fields as directed by the plant protection centre
  • Train farmers on crop protection and safe use of pesticides
  • Run awareness drives on plant protection in villages
  • Travel to fields by bicycle and climb trees when field checks need it
