GMCH Chandigarh Multi-Post Recruitment 2026: Overview

Government Medical College and Hospital, Chandigarh (GMCH-32) is filling posts across Senior Resident, Casualty Medical Officer, Resident Anesthetist, Medical Officer and Junior Resident cadres through its Establishment Branch-II. The drive covers 34 clinical specialties for Senior Residents alone, from Anesthesia and Cardiology to Urology and Radiodiagnosis, plus casualty and junior residency posts at GMCH and its Mental Health Institute (MHI). These are tenure posts filled through walk-in interview, not a regular direct-recruitment exam — most positions run for six months and may be extended until a regular incumbent joins. MBBS/BDS graduates finishing their internship and postgraduate doctors in the listed specialties can both apply.

• Senior Resident: postgraduate posts spread across 34 specialties including General Medicine, General Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Orthopaedics, Anesthesia, Cardiology and Neurosurgery.
• Casualty Medical Officer (CMO): General Medicine and General Surgery casualty posts.
• Resident Anesthetist: a dedicated anesthesia casualty post.
• Medical Officer: posts at GMCH and its Mental Health Institute (MHI); PG degree holders are preferred but not mandatory.
• Emergency Medical Officer (Forensic Medicine): casualty-facing forensic medicine posts.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Tenure: Senior Resident, CMO and Resident Anesthetist posts run for six months, extendable until a regular incumbent joins through direct recruitment, capped at three years of total senior residency.
• Junior Resident tenure: runs only until 31 December 2026 or completion of one year of junior residency, whichever comes first.
• Government employees: must route their application through proper channel with a No Objection Certificate from their current employer, and submit it within three days of the interview.
• Multiple posts: candidates applying for more than one post or department pay the application fee only once.
• Eligibility bar: Senior Residents who have already completed three years of senior residency, and doctors who have already completed one year of junior residency, cannot reapply for the respective posts.
• Vacancy count: the number of general and reserved posts is tentative and can change before the final selection.

The walk-in interview happens in two batches at the Office of the Director Principal, Level-II, Block D, GMCH Sector 32, Chandigarh: Senior Residents, CMOs and the Resident Anesthetist interview on 31 August 2026, and Medical Officers, Emergency Medical Officers and Junior Residents on 1 September 2026, both starting at 11 AM — reach the venue by 9 AM sharp. GMCH will publish the shortlist of eligible candidates on its website ahead of these dates.
