The Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Chandigarh is hiring 64 Senior Residents, Casualty Medical Officers, a Resident Anaesthetist and a Resident Pathologist across 28 medical and surgical departments. If you hold a postgraduate medical degree (MD/MS/DNB/M.Ch/DM) recognised by the Medical Council of India, you can attend the walk-in interview on 20 July 2026 (Monday). These are tenure posts for 44 days, and pay starts from Rs. 67,700 per month plus Non-Practicing Allowance at 20%. The upper age limit is 45 years as on 01 July 2026.

The Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Chandigarh, under the Chandigarh Administration's Department of Medical Education & Research, has issued Advertisement No. GMCH-E-2/EA1/July/2026 to fill 64 vacant posts of Senior Residents, Casualty Medical Officers (General Medicine & General Surgery), Resident Anaesthetist and Resident Pathologist through a walk-in interview. These posts span 28 different specialties — from Anaesthesia and Cardiology to Orthopaedics, Emergency Medicine, Biochemistry and Anatomy — making this one of the larger medical recruitment drives in Chandigarh this year. Who Can Apply?

  • Qualification: You need a postgraduate medical degree — MD, MS, DNB, M.Ch, or DM (or an equivalent degree) in the concerned specialty, recognised by the Medical Council of India (MCI) and registered with the MCI or a State Medical Council.
  • Candidates who have already completed three years of Senior Residency tenure are not eligible to apply for the Senior Resident post.
  • Nationality: Only Indian Nationals can apply.

Age Limit

  • Upper age limit is 45 years as on 01 July 2026.
  • Age Relaxation: 10 years for widows, deserted women, and women judicially separated from their husbands (who have not remarried).

Salary

  • Selected candidates get pay starting from Rs. 67,700 per month (minimum pay, 1st Cell of Level-11 of the Pay Matrix) plus Non-Practicing Allowance (NPA) at 20%, as per Central Government Services (Revised Pay) Rules, 2016.

  • All categories: Rs. 500 (non-refundable)

Selection Process (Walk-In Interview)

GMCH will select candidates through the following process:

  1. Document Verification: Bring your filled application and original certificates for verification between 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM on the interview day.
  2. Walk-In Interview: The interview will be held at 2:00 PM the same day, in the office of the Director Principal (Room No. 210), Level-2, Block-D, GMCH Chandigarh.

Selected candidates must apply afresh when a regular advertisement is released later. No TA/DA will be paid for attending the walk-in interview.

  2. Fill it in completely, mentioning the post and department applied for (in order of preference, if applying for more than one).
  3. Attach self-attested copies of your educational qualification certificates, MCI/State Medical Council registration certificate, internship completion certificate, MBBS mark sheets (1st Prof, 2nd Prof, Final Prof Part I & II), date of birth proof, and a No Objection Certificate (NOC) if you are already in government service.
  4. Carry your original certificates and a recent passport-size photograph.
  5. Report to the Establishment Branch-II, Block-D, GMCH-32, Chandigarh between 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM on 20 July 2026 along with the Rs. 500 application fee.
  6. Attend the interview at 2:00 PM the same day in the Director Principal's office (Room No. 210).

  • Assist and coordinate with consultants during rounds, procedures, and surgeries
  • Handle emergency cases and casualty duties as assigned
  • Maintain accurate patient records, case sheets, and treatment documentation
  • Guide and supervise junior residents, interns, and nursing staff
  • Participate in academic teaching, case discussions, and departmental meetings
  • Follow hospital protocols, infection control, and safety guidelines
  • Perform on-call and shift duties, including nights and weekends, as required
