Family Court Sundargarh Counsellor Recruitment 2026 — 1 Post
The Office of the District Judge, Sundargarh has invited applications under Advertisement No. 01 dated 02.04.2026 for 1 Counsellor vacancy in the Family Court at Rourkela. This recruitment is being done as per Rules 5 and 6 of the Family Courts (Orissa) Rules, 1990. The Counsellor's main job is to help families settle disputes and work towards reconciliation. If you have a background in social work, sociology, or psychology with relevant experience, this is a good opportunity to serve in the Odisha judiciary.
Who Can Apply?
Category 1 — Candidates with Master's Degree + Experience:
- Qualification: Master's Degree in Social Science, preferably in Sociology or Psychology
- Experience: Minimum 3 years in family counselling
Category 2 — Social Workers (if Category 1 candidates are not available):
- Age: Must be above 35 years
- Qualification: Degree in Social Science, preferably in Sociology or Psychology
- Experience: Working in social service and welfare activities, engaged in promoting the welfare of Family and Child Care
Other Requirements (for all candidates):
- Citizenship: Must be a citizen of India
- Language: Must be able to speak, read and write Odia and have passed the Odia test equivalent to M.E. Standard
- Health: Must be of sound health, good physique and free from organic defects or bodily infirmity
- Marital Status: Must not have more than one living spouse
- Criminal Record: Must submit a declaration about any pending criminal cases
Salary
- Retainer Fee: Rs. 6,000 per month
- Assisting Fee: Rs. 1,000 per day of actual work
- The exact rates are fixed by the State Government of Odisha from time to time in consultation with the High Court of Orissa
Selection Process
There is no written exam for this post. Selection will be based on:
- Screening of Applications: Your qualifications, experience, and supporting documents will be checked for eligibility
- Merit-Based Selection: The Counsellor will be appointed by the Hon'ble High Court of Orissa, Cuttack based on merit

Responsibilities
- Assist and advise parties involved in family disputes regarding settlement of issues
- Help parties in arriving at a reconciliation in family matters
- Handle petitions assigned by the Family Court Judge related to matrimonial and family cases
- Work closely with families to identify the root causes of disputes and suggest solutions
- Prepare reports and case summaries for the Family Court
- Follow the guidelines laid down under the Family Courts (Orissa) Rules, 1990

Minimum Qualification
Master's Degree in Social Science (preferably Sociology or Psychology) with 3 years family counselling experience
Preferred Qualification
Specialization in Sociology or Psychology
