Family Court Keonjhar Counsellor Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post
The Office of the District & Sessions Judge, Keonjhar has issued Advertisement No. 02/2026 dated 28 March 2026 inviting applications for the post of Counsellor in the Family Court. The appointment will be made by the Hon'ble High Court of Orissa, Cuttack under Rules 5 and 6 of the Family Courts (Orissa) Rules, 1990. This is a suitable opportunity for professionals with a background in social science, family welfare, and counseling work.
Who Can Apply?
Primary Qualification
- Degree: Master's Degree in Social Science, preferably in Sociology or Psychology, from a recognised university
- Experience: Minimum 3 years of experience in family counseling
Alternative Qualification (if primary candidates not available)
- Age: Above 35 years
- Field: Must be actively working in social service, welfare activities, and promoting the welfare of Family and Child Care
- Degree: A degree (not necessarily Master's) in Social Science, preferably Sociology or Psychology
Other Requirements
- Citizenship: Must be a citizen of India
- Language: Must be able to speak, read, and write Odia and have passed a test in Odia equivalent to M.E. Standard
- Health: Must be of sound health, good physique, and free from organic defects or bodily infirmity
- Marital Status: Must not have more than one spouse living
Fee / Salary
- Monthly retainer fee: Rs. 6,000 per month
- Assisting fee: Rs. 1,000 per day of actual court work
- Note: This is a fixed fee arrangement as per Resolution No. IJ-02/2019-6839/L dated 23.04.2025, Government of Orissa, Law Department. It is not a regular government salary.

Selection Process
Selection is based on merit and review of applications and documents:
- Scrutiny of Applications: Applications will be screened based on eligibility — qualification, experience, and Odia language proficiency
- Document Verification: Shortlisted candidates will be called for verification of original documents
- Final Appointment: The Counsellor will be appointed by the Hon'ble High Court of Orissa, Cuttack

Responsibilities
- Assist and advise parties in resolving the subject matter of family disputes referred by the Family Court
- Help families arrive at reconciliation through structured counseling sessions
- Handle petitions assigned by the Family Court judge and provide impartial guidance
- Maintain proper records of counseling sessions and outcomes
- Coordinate with the court on schedules and case progress
- Work with families on matters related to child care, custody, and family welfare
- Prepare and submit reports on counseling outcomes to the court as required
Eligibility Criteria
Minimum Qualification
Master's Degree in Social Science (preferably Sociology or Psychology) with minimum 3 years experience in family counseling
Preferred Qualification
Specialisation in Sociology or Psychology; experience in family welfare and child care activities
Required Skills
Family counseling, social service, proficiency in Odia language (read, write, speak)

Pay Scale
