Family Court Balangir Counsellor Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post

The Office of the District Judge, Balangir has issued Advertisement No. 01 of 2026 dated 7 April 2026 for filling the vacant post of Counsellor in the Family Court, Balangir. The appointment is made as desired by the Hon'ble High Court of Orissa, Cuttack, under the Family Courts (Orissa) Rules, 1990. The Counsellor will be appointed by the Hon'ble High Court of Orissa, Cuttack. This role involves assisting parties in family disputes and promoting reconciliation before the Family Court.

Who Can Apply?

Primary Qualification:

  • Qualification: Master's Degree in Social Science, preferably in Sociology or Psychology from a recognised university
  • Experience: Minimum 3 years of experience in family counseling

Alternative Eligibility (if primary candidates are not available):

  • Persons above the age of 35 years working in social service and welfare activities and engaged in promoting the welfare of Family and Child Care
  • Must hold a degree in Social Science, preferably in Sociology or Psychology

Other Requirements:

  • Odia Language: You must be able to speak, read and write Odia and have passed a test in Odia equivalent to the M.E. standard
  • Citizenship: Must be a citizen of India
  • Health: Must be of sound health, good physique and free from organic defects, bodily infirmity or communicable disease
  • Marital status: Should not have more than one spouse, if married
  • Character: No criminal case pending or conviction in any criminal case

Age Limit

  • No specific age limit mentioned for primary qualification holders
  • For alternative eligibility: must be above 35 years of age

Salary / Retainer Fee

  • Monthly Retainer: Rs. 6,000 per month (as per Government of Odisha Law Department Resolution No. IJ-02/2019/6839/L dated 23.04.2025)
  • Assisting Fee: Rs. 1,000 per day of actual work in court
  • Rates are fixed by the State Government in consultation with the Hon'ble High Court of Orissa and may be revised from time to time

Responsibilities

  • Assist and advise parties in settling disputes brought before the Family Court, Balangir
  • Help parties work towards reconciliation in matrimonial and family-related cases
  • Conduct counseling sessions with individuals and families referred by the court
  • Prepare and submit written reports on the outcome of counseling sessions to the judge
  • Follow the procedures and conditions laid down in the Family Courts (Orissa) Rules, 1990 and any amendments thereto
  • Maintain confidentiality of all information shared by parties during counseling
  • Attend court on assigned dates and assist during hearings as directed by the Family Court judge

Eligibility Criteria

Minimum Qualification

Master's Degree in Social Science (preferably Sociology or Psychology) with minimum 3 years experience in family counseling

Preferred Qualification

Specialisation in Sociology or Psychology; experience in family and child welfare activities
