Family Court Cuttack Counsellor Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post
The Office of the District Judge, Cuttack has invited applications for 1 vacant post of Counsellor in the Court of the Judge, Family Court, Cuttack. This recruitment is being done under Rule-5 and Rule-6 of the Family Courts (Orissa) Rules, 1990 as directed by the Hon'ble High Court of Orissa vide Letter No. 4492 (60) dated 16.03.2026. The Counsellor will be appointed by the Hon'ble High Court of Orissa. Candidates with a background in social work, sociology or psychology and hands-on experience in family counselling should apply.
Who Can Apply?
- Citizenship: You must be a citizen of India.
- Qualification: You need a Master's Degree in Social Science, preferably in Sociology or Psychology, from a recognised university.
- Experience: You must have at least 3 years of experience in family counselling.
- Language: You must be able to speak, read and write Odia and have passed the Odia language test equivalent to M.E. standard.
- Health: You should be of sound health, good physique and free from any organic defects or bodily infirmity.
- Marital Status: You should not have more than one living spouse.
- Character: You must submit a declaration that no criminal case is pending against you.
Special provision: If candidates meeting the above criteria are not available, persons above 35 years of age working in social service and welfare activities, engaged in promoting the welfare of Family and Child Care, with a degree in Social Science (preferably Sociology or Psychology) can also apply.

Responsibilities
- Assist and advise parties involved in family disputes to reach an amicable settlement
- Handle counselling sessions for matrimonial cases, custody disputes and maintenance matters
- Prepare detailed reports for the Family Court Judge on the possibility of settlement between parties
- Visit homes of disputing parties and interview relatives, friends and other relevant persons
- Work closely with the Family Court to promote conciliation and speedy settlement of disputes
- Maintain proper records and case files of all counselling sessions conducted
- Follow the guidelines laid down under Rule-8 of the Family Courts (Orissa) Rules, 1990
