The Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory (TBRL), a premier lab under DRDO, Ministry of Defence, is hiring 14 Research Associates (RA) and Junior Research Fellows (JRF) across multiple engineering and science disciplines. TBRL Chandigarh, part of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) under the Government of India's Ministry of Defence, has released Advt. No. TBRL/RA/JRF/01/2026. The lab works on high explosive compositions, blast and fragmentation studies, warhead evaluation, and ballistic testing of protective systems. This recruitment covers 12 JRF and 2 RA positions in Mechanical, Physics, Electronics, Computer Science, Electrical, and Metallurgy disciplines. Who Can Apply?

Junior Research Fellow (JRF)

  • Mechanical Engineering: BE/B.Tech in Mechanical with First Division and valid NET/GATE, OR M.E./M.Tech in Mechanical with First Division at both Graduate and Postgraduate level
  • Physics: Post Graduation in Physics with First Division and valid NET qualification
  • Electronics & Communication Engineering: BE/B.Tech in ECE with First Division and valid NET/GATE, OR M.E./M.Tech in ECE with First Division at both levels
  • Computer Science: BE/B.Tech in CS with First Division and valid NET/GATE, OR M.E./M.Tech in CS with First Division at both levels
  • Electrical Engineering: BE/B.Tech in EE with First Division and valid NET/GATE, OR M.E./M.Tech in EE with First Division at both levels

Research Associate (RA)

  • Metallurgy & Material Engineering: Ph.D or equivalent in Material Science/Metallurgy, OR Post Graduation in Material Science/Metallurgy with 3 years of R&D experience and at least one paper in an SCI Journal
  • Physics: Ph.D or equivalent in Physics, OR Post Graduation in Physics with 3 years of R&D experience and at least one paper in an SCI Journal

Age Limit

  • JRF: Maximum 28 years on the date of walk-in interview
  • RA: Maximum 35 years on the date of walk-in interview
  • SC/ST relaxation: 5 years
  • OBC relaxation: 3 years

Salary / Stipend

  • JRF: Rs. 37,000/- per month plus HRA as per government rules
  • RA: Rs. 67,000/- per month plus HRA as per government rules
  • After 2 years as JRF, you may be upgraded to Senior Research Fellow (SRF) with a stipend of Rs. 42,000/- per month plus HRA

Selection Process

  1. Eligibility Screening: Your documents and certificates will be checked first. Only candidates who meet all eligibility criteria will move to the next stage.
  2. Walk-in Interview: Screened-in candidates will appear for a personal interview on the same day. You must report at TBRL, Sector-30, Chandigarh by 9:00 AM. No candidate will be allowed after 10:00 AM.

Note: No TA/DA will be paid for attending the interview. This fellowship is purely temporary and does not give you any right to permanent absorption in DRDO.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research and development work in defence-related projects at TBRL Range Ramgarh
  • Assist senior scientists in designing and executing experiments related to ballistics, explosives, and protective systems
  • Prepare technical reports, research papers, and documentation of experimental findings
  • Handle laboratory equipment and testing instruments for data collection and analysis
  • Work on high explosive compositions, blast studies, fragmentation analysis, or warhead evaluation as per your discipline
  • Follow all safety protocols and standard operating procedures during testing and experiments
  • Monitor ongoing projects and present progress updates to the research team

Eligibility Criteria

Minimum Qualification

BE/B.Tech (First Division) with NET/GATE for JRF; Ph.D or PG with 3 years R&D experience for RA

Preferred Qualification

M.E./M.Tech with First Division for JRF; Ph.D for RA

Required Skills

Valid NET/GATE qualification for JRF positions; SCI Journal publication for RA without Ph.D
