The Department of Defence Production (DDP), Ministry of Defence, is looking for 1 Deputy Planning Officer (General) on deputation basis. The Department of Defence Production under the Ministry of Defence, Government of India, has released vacancy circular No. 18(1)/2026/DPO(G)/DP(A&C) dated 01 April 2026 for filling up one post of Deputy Planning Officer (General) — also known as DPO(G). This is a deputation posting in the Directorate of Planning and Coordination, which handles capital acquisition proposals, defence production policy, and coordination with Service Headquarters.
Who Can Apply?
This post will be filled by transfer on deputation from the following categories of officers:
Armed Forces Officers
- Serving officers of the Indian Army, Navy, or Air Force holding the substantive rank of Lt Col / Commander / Wing Commander respectively
Civilian Officers
- All India Services (IAS/IPS/IFS) officers or officers holding analogous posts in Central Civil Services, Group 'A'
- Officers holding regular analogous posts in DRDO, IOFS, or Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs)
Desirable Qualifications
- Familiarity with defence production policy and procedures
- Knowledge of indigenization and 'Make in India' in the defence sector
- Experience with Defence Procurement Procedure (DPP)
Important: You must have a residual service of at least 4 years from the date of issue of this vacancy circular (01 April 2026).
Salary
- Pay Level: Level 12/12A as per 7th Central Pay Commission
- Basic Pay Range: Rs. 78,800 - Rs. 2,09,200 per month
- Deputation Allowance: As per existing government orders and instructions
- Other Benefits: Service Officers on deputation continue to draw their pay and allowances from their respective Controller of Defence Accounts (CDAs)

What Does a Deputy Planning Officer (General) Do?
As DPO(G) in the Dte of P&C, your key duties include:
- Collect, study, and analyse information on Capital Acquisition from Service Headquarters and other Ministries
- Carry out technical assessment of qualitative requirements and Acceptance of Necessity (AON) proposals
- Compile capital acquisition proposals for Categorization Committees, Defence Production Board, and Defence Acquisition Council
- Handle key policy issues related to Defence Production
- Represent DDP in Feasibility Studies, IPMT, and PFT for 'Make' projects
- Track project progress and organize meetings on categorization of Capital Acquisition Proposals

Responsibilities
- Collect, study, and analyse information on Capital Acquisition by Service Headquarters in DDP and other Ministries to track availability of products, technologies, and production capacities for defence items
- Carry out technical assessment of qualitative requirements and Acceptance of Necessity (AON) proposals forwarded by Service Headquarters
- Prepare advice on capital acquisition proposals for the Department of Defence Production
- Compile capital acquisition proposals for consideration before Categorization Committees, Defence Production Board, Defence Acquisition Council
- Handle key policy issues related to Defence Production
- Represent DDP in Feasibility Studies, IPMT, and PFT for 'Make' projects
- Monitor progress of projects assigned to the division and organize briefings on categorization of Capital Acquisition Proposals
Eligibility Criteria
Minimum Qualification
Serving Armed Forces Officers (Lt Col/Cdr/Wg Cdr) or AIS/Central Civil Services Group A or analogous posts in DRDO/IOFS/DPSUs
Preferred Qualification
Familiarity with defence production, indigenization, Make in India in defence sector, and Defence Procurement Procedure (DPP)
