Government Medical College and Hospital, Alibag-Raigad, under the Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER), Mumbai, has announced 21 contractual vacancies for Professor (12 posts) and Associate Professor (9 posts) across various medical specialties. These are 364-day contractual appointments to fill vacant positions through a centralised selection process. Who Can Apply?

For Professor Posts

• Qualification: MD/MS/DNB in the relevant subject from a recognised institution. For pre-clinical subjects (Anatomy, Physiology), MBBS with M.Sc. (Medical) and Ph.D. or D.Sc. in the relevant field is also accepted.
• Experience: Associate Professor in the subject for 3 years in a permitted or recognised medical college or institution (as per NMC notification dated 14.02.2022).
• Research: At least 4 research publications (at least 2 as Associate Professor) in indexed journals (PubMed Central, Science Citation Index, Scopus, DOAJ, etc.).
• Biomedical Research: Must have completed the Basic Course in Biomedical Research from NMC-designated institutions.

For Associate Professor Posts

• Qualification: MD/MS/DNB in the relevant subject. For Obstetrics & Gynaecology, M.D. or M.S. (Obstetrics and Gynaecology) or DNB is accepted.
• Experience: Assistant Professor in the subject for 4 years in a permitted or recognised medical college or institution.
• Research: At least 2 research publications in indexed journals.
• Biomedical Research: Must have completed the Basic Course in Biomedical Research from NMC-designated institutions.
• For new broad specialties: Special training for 3 years in the respective specialty at a teaching institution or centre of excellence with dedicated service, plus Basic Course in Medical Education (BCME).

General Requirements

• Citizenship: Must be an Indian citizen and a Maharashtra domicile.
• Registration: Must hold permanent registration with the Maharashtra Medical Council under the Maharashtra Medical Practitioners Act 1961, or with the relevant State/National Medical Council.

Age Limit

• Maximum age: 69 years as on 03 December 2025.
• This applies equally to all candidates including retired medical professionals.

Salary

• Professor: Rs. 2,00,000 per month (fixed contractual salary for Clinical/Non-Clinical subjects)
• Associate Professor: Rs. 1,45,000 per month (fixed contractual salary for Clinical/Non-Clinical subjects)
• The salary is as per Government Decision dated 08/02/2022 and Government Decision dated 29/08/2024.

Selection Process (Merit + Interview)

Selection is based on a 100-mark scoring system combining academic merit and interview:

1. Qualification (50 marks):
   • MS/MD/MCh/DNB: 10 marks
   • MBBS aggregate marks: 5 to 20 marks (based on percentage slab)
   • 12th aggregate marks: 5 to 20 marks (based on percentage slab)
2. Additional Qualification (5 marks): DNB/CPS/Ph.D./Fellowship in the concerned subject
3. Teaching Experience (20 marks): Based on years of teaching in the relevant specialty (mandatory)
4. Research Publications (10 marks): Based on published research papers (mandatory)
5. Interview (15 marks): Personal interview before the selection committee

Candidates scoring a minimum of 75 out of 100 in document verification and interview combined will be considered for appointment. The final merit list determines the selection.
