About This Job
The Office of the District Judge, Puri has released an official notification for the recruitment of 1 Counsellor post in the Family Court, Puri. This is a contractual position with a monthly retainer of Rs. 6,000 plus Rs. 1,000 per working day as assisting fee. District Court Puri Counsellor Recruitment 2026 — 1 Post
The District & Sessions Judge Court, Puri, under the High Court of Orissa, is looking for a qualified Counsellor to work at the Family Court in Puri, Odisha. As a Family Court Counsellor, you will help couples and families resolve their disputes through counselling before cases go to trial. This is a great chance for social science graduates with counselling experience to work in the judiciary system. Who Can Apply?
Educational Qualification
- Primary Route: Master's Degree in Social Science (preferably Sociology or Psychology) from a recognized university, with a minimum of 3 years of experience in family counselling
- Alternative Route: Candidates above 35 years of age who have been engaged in social service and welfare activities (specifically Family and Child Care) with a Degree in Social Science are also eligible
Language Requirement
- Must have passed a test in Odia language equivalent to M.E. (Middle English) standard
- Must be able to speak, read, and write Odia
Other Requirements
- Must be an Indian citizen
- Must be of sound health and good physique
- Must not have more than one spouse living
- Must have no criminal case pending against them
Age Limit
- Minimum Age: Above 35 years (for alternative qualification route)
- Age Relaxation for OBC: 3 years
- Age Relaxation for SC/ST/PwBD: 5 years
- Age Relaxation for Ex-Servicemen: 5 years
- Age Relaxation for PwBD + SC/ST: 15 years
- Age relaxation is as per Government of Odisha rules
Salary
- Monthly Retainer Fee: Rs. 6,000 per month
- Assisting Fee: Rs. 1,000 per day of actual work
- If you work around 22-24 days a month, your total monthly earning comes to approximately Rs. 28,000 to Rs. 30,000
- The fees are fixed by the State Government in consultation with the High Court of Orissa

Responsibilities
- Handle pre-litigation counselling sessions for couples and families referred by the Family Court
- Assist in resolving matrimonial disputes, custody matters, and maintenance issues through mediation
- Prepare detailed case reports and counselling summaries for the Family Court Judge
- Work closely with both parties in a dispute to explore amicable settlement options
- Follow the guidelines set under the Family Courts (Orissa) Rules, 1990
- Maintain confidential records of all counselling sessions and outcomes
- Assist the court in understanding the social and psychological aspects of family disputes
Eligibility Criteria
Minimum Qualification
Master's Degree in Social Science (Sociology/Psychology preferred) + 3 years Family Counselling experience. Alt: Above 35 years in social service/welfare with Degree in Social Science.
Preferred Qualification
Master's Degree specifically in Sociology or Psychology
Required Skills
Family counselling, mediation, dispute resolution, report writing, Odia language proficiency
