About This Job

The Office of the District Judge, Cuttack is hiring 1 Counsellor for the Family Court, Cuttack. This is a great opportunity if you have a background in social science and experience in family counselling. You will help families resolve disputes through mediation and counselling. District Court Cuttack Counsellor Recruitment 2026 — 1 Post

This recruitment is based on Advertisement No. 01 dated 30.03.2026, issued by the Office of the District Judge, Cuttack, following the direction of the Hon'ble High Court of Orissa (Letter No. 4492 dated 16.03.2026). The appointment is made under Rule-5 and Rule-6 of the Family Courts (Orissa) Rules, 1990. The selected Counsellor will be appointed by the High Court of Orissa and posted at the Family Court in Cuttack.

Who Can Apply?

Educational Qualification

  • Master's Degree in Social Science (preferably in Sociology or Psychology) is required
  • Alternative: If you are above 35 years of age and have been working in social service and welfare activities (especially Family and Child Care), a Degree in Social Science (preferably Sociology or Psychology) is enough

Experience

  • You need at least 3 years of experience in Family Counselling
  • Alternative: Persons above 35 years working in social service and engaged in promoting the welfare of Family and Child Care are also eligible

Language Requirement

  • You must be able to speak, read, and write Odia
  • You should have passed a test in Odia equivalent to the M.E. standard

Other Requirements

  • Must be an Indian citizen
  • Must not have more than one spouse living
  • Must submit a declaration regarding no criminal case pending
  • Must be of sound health, good physique, and free from organic defects or bodily infirmity

Age Limit

  • Age as on 30.03.2026 (date of advertisement)

Salary

Responsibilities

  • Assist in mediation and counselling sessions for families involved in disputes before the Family Court

  • Follow the guidelines laid down under Rule-8 of the Family Courts (Orissa) Rules, 1990
  • Prepare reports and recommendations for the Judge of the Family Court after counselling sessions
  • Keep records of all counselling cases, outcomes, and follow-up actions
  • Assist in promoting the welfare of families and children involved in court proceedings

Eligibility Criteria

Minimum Qualification

Master's Degree in Social Science (Sociology/Psychology preferred) + 3 years Family Counselling experience. Alt: Above 35 years in social service/welfare with Degree in Social Science.
