DGRE (Defence Geoinformatics Research Establishment), a DRDO lab in Chandigarh, is hiring 8 Junior Research Fellows (JRF) across four disciplines - Computer Science/IT, Structure Engineering, Geo-informatics/Remote Sensing, and Atmospheric Science. Defence Geoinformatics Research Establishment (DGRE) Junior Research Fellow Recruitment 2026 - 8 Posts

DGRE, a DRDO laboratory based in Chandigarh, studies snow, avalanches and mountain terrain to support the Indian Army in high-altitude regions like the Himalayas. It has invited applications for 8 Junior Research Fellow (JRF) positions (Advertisement No. DGRE-01/JRF-RA/01/2026-27). The fellowships span four research areas: Computer Science/IT, Structure Engineering, Geo-informatics/Remote Sensing & GIS, and Atmospheric Science/Meteorology. Fresh postgraduates and NET/GATE-qualified engineering graduates in these fields should apply, and each fellow will work on live defence research projects under the guidance of senior DRDO scientists.

Who Can Apply?

Eligibility depends on which of the four disciplines you are applying for. Read the qualification for your chosen post carefully before you attend the interview, since candidature is rejected on the spot for any mismatch in qualification, discipline or percentage of marks.

For JRF - Computer Science/IT (3 posts):

• Qualification: ME/M.Tech in Computer Science & Engineering/Computer Engineering/Computer Science/IT and allied subjects with first division (both graduate and post-graduate level)
• OR: BE/B.Tech (first division) with NET/GATE in the same subjects
• Desirable: knowledge of AI/ML, Big Data Analysis and image processing, programming in Python/C/C++/Java, and VR scenario development using Unity or Unreal engines

For JRF - Structure Engineering (1 post):

• Qualification: ME/M.Tech in Structure Engineering with first division (both graduate and post-graduate level)
• OR: BE/B.Tech (first division) with NET/GATE in Civil Engineering (Structure Engineering specialization)
• Desirable: working knowledge of AutoCAD, STAAD Pro/ETAB and Finite Element Analysis software such as ANSYS/ABAQUS

For JRF - Geo-informatics/Remote Sensing & GIS (2 posts):

• Qualification: ME/M.Tech in Geo-informatics/Remote Sensing & GIS/Geomatics/Geospatial Engineering with first division
• OR: BE/B.Tech (first division) with NET/GATE in Geo-informatics/RS & GIS/Geomatics/Earth Science/Environmental Science
• OR: Post-Graduate Science degree (first division, must hold a B.Sc) with NET/GATE in the same fields
• Desirable: Remote Sensing/GIS software skills, AI/ML-based analysis, and exposure to SAR data processing

For JRF - Atmospheric Science/Meteorology (2 posts):

• Qualification: ME/M.Tech in Atmospheric Science/Meteorology/Environmental Engineering with first division
• OR: BE/B.Tech (first division) with NET/GATE in Atmospheric Science/Meteorology/Environmental Engineering
• OR: Post-Graduate Science degree (first division, must hold a B.Sc) with NET/GATE in the same fields
• Desirable: exposure to numerical weather prediction models and statistical analysis tools

Age Limit

• You should not be older than 28 years as on 30 June 2026.
• Age Relaxation: 5 years for SC/ST candidates and 3 years for OBC candidates, as per government rules.

Salary

• Selected JRFs will get a stipend of Rs. 37,000 per month plus HRA.
• The Junior Research Fellowship is initially for 2 years and can be ended with one month's prior notice.
• The fellowship does not count towards seniority or any other government benefit, and does not confer a right to regular appointment in DRDO.

Selection Process (No Written Exam)

DGRE will select candidates through a walk-in interview in 2 stages:

1. Screening and Document Verification: Held between 10:00 AM and 11:00 AM on your interview date.
2. Personal Interview: Shortlisted candidates are interviewed from 11:00 AM onward.

Selection through the walk-in interview is provisional and subject to verification of your original documents. Report by 08:30 AM on your scheduled interview date.

General conditions: the number of fellowships may increase or decrease based on requirements, DGRE does not provide accommodation for the interview, and no TA/DA is paid for attending the interview or joining, irrespective of selection.

How to Apply

2. Fill the form in your own handwriting, following the Annexure-I format.
3. Attach self-attested copies of mark sheets/certificates (from 10th onward), caste certificate, experience certificates and a passport-size photo.
4. Report to DGRE, Him Parisar, Sector 37-A, Chandigarh by 08:30 AM on your interview date.
5. Carry all original documents for verification, along with a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from your employer if you currently work in government/PSU/an autonomous body.
