DGFT Young Professional Recruitment 2026: Overview

The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), an attached office of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, is hiring Young Professionals for its Regional Authority in Hyderabad. This office looks after all of Telangana and helps put the Foreign Trade Policy into practice on the ground. You will support policy work and the running of export promotion schemes — a good fit if you are an early-career economist, manager, engineer or commerce postgraduate who wants hands-on exposure to trade policy. This is a contract engagement, not a regular government post.

DGFT shapes and runs India's Foreign Trade Policy, issues scrips and authorisations to exporters and tracks their export obligations through a network of 24 regional offices. The Hyderabad office is one of these field offices, so your work stays close to real exporters and real cases.

Posts and Disciplines

Everyone selected joins as a Young Professional, but the office is looking for people from four streams:

  • Economics: for candidates with a Master's degree in Economics.
  • Management: for MBA holders.
  • Engineering: open to B.Tech, BE and MCA graduates.
  • Commerce: for candidates with a Master's degree in Commerce.

The notice says the number of openings may go up or down, so the final intake can change. Each stream asks for a strong academic record in the qualifying degree.

Service Conditions and Caveats

  • Tenure: One year at first, which can be extended up to three years based on your performance. No extension is possible after three years.
  • Status: The engagement is purely temporary. You are not treated as a staff member or official of DGFT, and it gives no claim to a later job in DGFT or any other department.
  • Pay terms: You get a consolidated fee only, released after your controlling officer certifies your work. No other allowance or facility is added.
  • Working hours: 9:15 AM to 5:45 PM with a half-hour lunch break. You may have to stay late or come in on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays when work demands.
  • Travel: You may be sent anywhere in India on tour; TA/DA follows the Assistant Section Officer level of the Central Government.
  • Leave: 1.5 days for every completed month, pro-rata. Unused leave does not carry over. Up to one month of unpaid leave is possible with approval, and women Young Professionals can get maternity leave under the Maternity Benefit (Amendment) Act, 2017.
  • Notice period: Either side can end the contract with 30 days' notice or pay in lieu.
  • Insurance: You must arrange your own life and health insurance. DGFT pays no compensation and offers no appointment in case of death, injury or illness during service.
  • Before joining: You need a police verification report and a medical-cum-fitness certificate; DGFT may also ask for a statement of good health from a recognised physician.
  • Confidentiality: You are bound by the Official Secrets Act, 1923, and must sign a non-disclosure and non-compete agreement (with a cooling-off period) on a Rs. 10 stamp paper on the joining day.
  • Termination: False documents, poor performance or misconduct can end the engagement immediately.

No TA/DA is paid for attending, and the office will not change the date or time. For queries, write to hyderabad-dgft@nic.in or call 040-27536930.
