The Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT), Kochi, has issued Notification No. Ad.D3/132/2008/Stat.Vol.II dated 17.05.2026 for the post of Assistant Professor (Contract) in the Department of Statistics. The contract runs until a regular teacher joins duty or for a maximum period of one year, with a break during the May-June vacation months. There is no written exam — selection is purely based on qualification and interview.

Who Can Apply?

• Qualification: Master's degree in Statistics with 55% marks (or equivalent grade) from an Indian University, or an equivalent degree from an accredited foreign University.
• Eligibility Test: You must have cleared NET (UGC/CSIR) or an equivalent UGC-accredited test such as SLET/SET.
• Alternative: Candidates who hold a Ph.D degree awarded as per UGC (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of M.Phil./Ph.D. Degree) Regulations 2009 or 2016 are exempted from NET/SLET/SET.
• Pre-2009 Ph.D: If you registered for Ph.D before 11 July 2009, you are exempted from NET/SLET/SET subject to additional conditions (Ph.D awarded in regular mode, thesis evaluated by two external examiners, open Ph.D viva, two research papers including one in a refereed journal, and two paper presentations at UGC/ICSSR/CSIR-supported events).
• Foreign Ph.D: A Ph.D from a foreign University/Institution ranked in the top 500 of QS, THE, or ARWU rankings is also acceptable.
• Desirable: Computer programming skills using statistical software such as SPSS, R, Python, or SAS; Ph.D in Statistics.

Salary

• For Ph.D holders: Consolidated salary of Rs. 42,000 per month.
• For other selected candidates: Consolidated salary of Rs. 40,000 per month.
• Tenure: Until a regular teacher joins duty, or a maximum of one year, whichever is earlier. Contract has a break during May-June vacation months.

Selection Process (No Written Exam)

Selection is based on qualification screening and interview:

1. Application Screening: CUSAT will verify online applications and supporting documents for minimum qualification.
2. Interview: Shortlisted candidates will be called for a personal interview at CUSAT, Kochi.
3. Document Verification: Original certificates will be checked at the time of interview.
