CSIR-National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (CSIR-NEERI) Project Associate-I Recruitment 2026 - 3 Posts

CSIR-NEERI, a constituent laboratory of the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) under the Ministry of Science & Technology, is hiring project staff for its Chennai Regional Centre. This engagement is under the project "Technical Evaluation and Vetting of Replacement Combustion Chambers and Adequacy Review of Existing APC Devices at the Biomedical Waste Management Facility (BMWMF), Madurantakam" (TSP-3058). The position is purely temporary and co-terminus with the project — it does not lead to a permanent CSIR job, and your engagement will end once the project is completed or funds run out. Engineering graduates who can carry out air, water, wastewater, and soil analysis, and who are comfortable working in Tamil, are encouraged to apply.

Your appointment will initially be offered for the period covered by the current tranche of project funds, and a review committee will assess your performance before recommending any extension. Under CSIR rules, the total time you can spend as project staff across CSIR-NEERI and other CSIR laboratories cannot exceed 5 to 7 years. If you want to move to a different CSIR project later, you will need to resign from the current one first and apply fresh — there is no automatic upgrade between projects.

Who Can Apply?

  • Qualification: B.E./B.Tech in Civil Engineering or Chemical Engineering from a recognized university
  • Job Requirement: You should be able to carry out air, water, wastewater, and soil analysis, and prepare scientific reports
  • Skills: Computer knowledge and proficiency in the Tamil (regional) language are required
  • Note: Only candidates who have already acquired the essential qualification (with at least a provisional certificate) can apply. If your result is awaited, you're in your final semester, or your Ph.D is under submission, you are not eligible
  • Experience Counting: Any experience is counted only from the date after you complete your minimum qualification — time spent on your dissertation, thesis work, or acquiring a higher qualification does not count as experience

Age Limit

  • The upper age limit for this post is 35 years, counted as on the last date of receiving applications.

Salary

  • You will get Rs. 31,000 per month plus HRA if you have qualified CSIR-UGC/ICAR/ICMR NET (for lectureship or Assistant Professorship) or GATE, or a similar national-level exam conducted by Central Government departments like DBT/DST or their agencies.
  • If you do not meet the above criteria, you will get Rs. 25,000 per month plus HRA.
  • HRA will be paid as per applicable rules since you will need to make your own accommodation arrangements during the project tenure.

Application Fee

  • All Categories: No application fee

If you are selected, you are expected to join within the timeframe mentioned in your offer letter, after completing pre-appointment formalities such as a medical examination and character verification. CSIR-NEERI also reserves the right to cancel or withdraw your offer of engagement at any stage if any discrepancy is found in your candidature, even after selection.
