CSIR-IICB Project Associate Recruitment 2026: Overview
CSIR-Indian Institute of Chemical Biology (CSIR-IICB), a Kolkata laboratory of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), is holding a walk-in interview to fill project posts across twelve research projects. The roles range from Project Assistant-II for a science-outreach project up to Senior Project Associate for its preclinical testing work. The notice says the final number of selections may go up or down.
All posts are temporary project engagements at the Jadavpur campus in Kolkata, not regular CSIR jobs. The biggest block of openings sits under the institute's Chemical Biology programme (IICB-CB, project MLP002620), which covers cell biology, structural biology, organic synthesis and a GLP-style preclinical facility. If you hold an M.Sc in a life science or chemistry, there is a good chance at least one vacancy code matches your background.
Posts and Disciplines
- Haemostatic scaffold project (FTT070601): Senior Project Associate for preclinical and large-animal testing of a nanobiocomposite wound-sealing scaffold (code 5922601).
- Dengue aptamer project (GAP-510): Project Associate-II posts on AI-guided DNA aptamers against dengue virus proteins; cryo-EM and molecular biology experience helps (codes 5922602, 5922613).

- IICB-CB Chemical Biology programme (MLP002620): biology posts (codes 5922615-5922625), preclinical facility posts for test-item management, bioanalysis, pathology, toxicology/DMPK, computerised-system IT and genetic toxicology (codes 5922626-5922631), and organic chemistry posts (codes 5922632-5922638).
Post-wise Duties
Senior Project Associate
You will take on independent research work under the project investigator — for example running toxicology or bioanalytical studies in the preclinical facility, managing validated IT systems, or leading organic synthesis — and keep SOP-compliant raw data and study records.
Project Associate-II and Project Associate-I
You will carry out the day-to-day lab work of your project: cell culture, protein work, molecular biology assays, animal handling, synthesis or data analysis, depending on the vacancy code you apply for.
Project Assistant-II
You will support the CSIR Jigyasa outreach work by building simple experiments and DIY kits and helping design graphics and animations that explain science to students.
Service Conditions and Caveats
- Tenure: Each vacancy code has its own term, from one year to a fixed end date in 2027. Extensions depend on the project and a review committee.
- Six-year cap: Your total project service across all CSIR labs can never go beyond six years.
- No permanent claim: The engagement ends with the project and gives no right to regularisation at IICB or CSIR. Poor performance can lead to termination without notice.
- Results must be out: Final-semester students and anyone whose result is awaited cannot apply. Age and qualifications are counted as on the interview day.
- Higher pay with NET/GATE: For Project Associate-I and II, the pay is higher if you have cleared CSIR-UGC/ICAR/ICMR NET, GATE or a similar national test.
- Selection committees: Posts are grouped under committees B1, B2 and C1. If you apply for codes under different committees, you must fill a separate form for each committee, listing all the codes you want in that form.
