CMFRI Young Professional-II Recruitment 2026: Overview

ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) in Kochi is looking for a Young Professional-II for a research project funded by the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) under Deep Ocean Mission (DOM) Vertical III. The project uses artificial neural networks to identify marine species automatically, with the aim of exploring and sustainably using deep-sea marine fishes. This is a contract post tied to the project, so it suits you if you are a marine biology or fisheries postgraduate who wants hands-on experience in deep-sea fish research rather than a permanent job.

The selection is done through an interview, but only shortlisted candidates are called. CMFRI tells shortlisted people by e-mail, and only those who get this official message can attend on the given date and time.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Tenure: The post is purely temporary, for one year from the date of joining or until the project ends, whichever comes first.
• No regular job claim: The position is contractual, non-regular and co-terminus with the project. You cannot claim a regular appointment at CMFRI later.
• Work at sea: You must be ready to work on board vessels for sampling trips that last several days.
• Place of work: Your base is ICAR-CMFRI, Kochi, but you can be asked to work anywhere the project needs.
• Strong extras: The project values experience in deep-sea fish collection and identification, sampling on vessels, tissue analysis and molecular work, MS Office and Photoshop, record keeping and office correspondence. Swimming skill or publications in the same area also help.
• Relatives at ICAR/CMFRI: If any near or distant relative of yours works at ICAR-CMFRI, you must declare their name, designation, duties and relationship in Annexure-II in advance. Others fill the same declaration at the interview.
• CGPA/OGPA marks: If your marks are in grade points, bring the approved conversion table or formula to the interview. Without it, your application will not be considered.
• Present employer: If you are working now, carry a No Objection Certificate from your employer.
• Vacancy may change: The number of posts can vary based on other project needs on the interview day.
• No travel allowance: CMFRI pays no TA/DA for attending the interview.
• Discipline: Hiding facts or canvassing in any form leads to disqualification or termination, and the competent authority can end the engagement at any time. The Director, ICAR-CMFRI has the final say.

Application Submission Notes

You apply by filling the Google Form named in the notice. Along with it, send scanned copies of all your original certificates from matriculation onwards before the closing date — without these, you will not be allowed to sit for the interview.

Bring one valid photo ID on the interview day. The notice also includes an application format (Annexure-I) that asks for your education, experience, Masters project, any published papers and two referees, so keep those details ready.
