CMFRI Young Professional-I Recruitment 2026: Overview

ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI), the marine fisheries research body of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), is hiring Young Professional-I staff at its headquarters in Kochi. The notice (F. No. FFD-NPM-Consultancy/2026-2027) comes from the project's Principal Investigator. This is a purely temporary, contract engagement tied to the project, so it suits fresh fisheries, zoology, life science, oceanography or statistics graduates who want hands-on research experience.

The work leans towards the sea: CMFRI is looking for people with a background in deep-sea fish taxonomy, data analytics, fish biology, oceanographic analysis or sea-going research. Swimming skill and earlier experience on research vessels count in your favour.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Tenure: One year from the date of joining, renewable each year as per ICAR guidelines, and co-terminus with the project.
• Sea and field duty: You must be willing to take up sea-going and field duties whenever the project needs them, including on-board data collection and documentation.
• Preferred profile: An M.F.Sc., or an M.Sc. in Statistics with a fisheries specialisation, plus prior work in the fisheries sector, is preferred.
• Place of work: ICAR-CMFRI, Kochi.
• No regular job claim: The positions are contractual, non-regular and time-bound, so you cannot claim a regular appointment at CMFRI later.
• Relatives at ICAR/CMFRI: If a near or distant relative works at ICAR-CMFRI, declare their name, designation, duties and relationship in Annexure-II before the closing date. Everyone must send the signed Annexure-I and Annexure-II declarations.
• Present employer: If you are working now, keep a No Objection Certificate from your employer ready.
• No travel allowance: CMFRI pays no TA/DA for the interview. Hiding facts or canvassing leads to disqualification, and the Director, ICAR-CMFRI has the final word.
