CSIR-Central Leather Research Institute Junior Stenographer Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post

CSIR-Central Leather Research Institute (CSIR-CLRI), Chennai released a fresh notice on 08 June 2026 for the Junior Stenographer recruitment process. The notice confirms the exam sequence, preliminary screening result, willingness confirmation window and written exam city for Post Code JST2601. A total of 8,383 applications were received by the original closing date, and all remaining candidates except the listed non-recommended applicants are provisionally allowed for the written exam.

What the June 2026 Notice Changes

• Exam sequence: CLRI will conduct the competitive written exam first and stenography proficiency test after that.

Who Can Apply?

• Qualification: You need 10+2 / XII or equivalent.
• Skill requirement: You must have stenography proficiency as per DoPT norms.
• Current update: This June notice is mainly for candidates who already submitted the online application for JST2601.
• Provisional permission: Remaining applicants are provisionally allowed for the written exam, subject to detailed final screening.
• Stenography medium: The English or Hindi option chosen in the online form will remain final for the proficiency test.

Age Limit

• Minimum age is 18 years as on 02 March 2026.
• Upper age limit for Junior Stenographer is 27 years as on 02 March 2026.

• OBC-NCL: 3 years relaxation as per rules.
• PwBD: 10 years for UR, 13 years for OBC-NCL and 15 years for SC/ST.
• Ex-Servicemen and eligible women categories: Relaxation is available as listed in the advertisement.

Salary

• Pay scale is Level-4, Rs. 25,500 to Rs. 81,100.
• Approximate total monthly pay at the minimum of the scale is Rs. 53,628.
• The total pay includes basic pay, DA, HRA, TA and other applicable allowances.

Application Fee

• General and other non-exempt categories: Rs. 500 per post code.
• Women / SC / ST / PwBD / Ex-Servicemen: No fee.
• Fee was payable through State Bank Collect during the original application period.

Selection Process

The CLRI Junior Stenographer selection process will now begin with the competitive written examination, followed by a stenography proficiency test.

1. Competitive Written Examination: The exam is scheduled on 05 July 2026 at Chennai. Exact time and venue will be printed on the admit card.
2. Stenography Proficiency Test: Only candidates who qualify in the written exam will be called for the stenography test.
3. Final Screening and Document Verification: Eligibility documents will be checked before final selection or appointment.

Written Exam Pattern

• Total questions: 200 objective questions.
• Total marks: 200 marks.
• Time: 2 hours, with extra time for eligible scribe users.
• Subjects: General Intelligence and Reasoning, General Awareness, and English Language and Comprehension.
• Negative marking: 0.25 marks will be deducted for each wrong answer.

Stenography Test

• Dictation speed: 80 words per minute for 10 minutes.
• English transcription: 50 minutes, or 70 minutes for scribe users.
• Hindi transcription: 65 minutes, or 90 minutes for scribe users.
• Nature of test: Qualifying only; final merit is based on written exam performance among candidates who qualify the stenography test.

If you are in the non-recommended list and want to raise a representation, the current notice gives a separate deadline of 12 June 2026 at 05:30 PM. Representations after that time will not be considered by CLRI.
