Chennai Port Authority (ChPA) Executive Engineer (Mech.) Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post

Chennai Port Authority, functioning under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, has issued a circular (No. RC1/168/2026/GA) addressed to the Chairpersons of all Major Port Authorities (except Kamarajar Port Limited), asking them to forward applications from their eligible officers for 1 post of Executive Engineer (Mechanical) Class I in ChPA's M&EE Department, to be filled through absorption or deputation. This is not a direct/open recruitment — it is meant strictly for officers already working at other Major Port Authorities who want to move to ChPA. The combined post of Executive Engineer (Mechanical/Electrical/Electronics & Communication) carries a total sanctioned strength of 16 posts across Major Port Authorities in India under the applicable Recruitment Rules, though this particular circular covers only the 1 vacancy at Chennai Port Authority. The selected officer will be governed by Central Government terms and conditions and will serve a 2-year probation period.

Who Can Apply?

• Eligibility: Only serving Officers of Major Port Authorities (except Kamarajar Port Limited) can apply — this post is not open to fresh graduates or the general public.
• Qualification: Degree or equivalent in Mechanical/Electrical/Electronics & Communication Engineering from a recognized university or institution.
• Experience: At least 5 years of experience in the relevant discipline in an executive cadre of an Industrial/Commercial/Government undertaking.
• Note: As per the Recruitment Rules, this post can also be filled by promotion or, failing that, by direct recruitment — but this particular notice covers absorption/deputation only.
• Method of Recruitment: The order of preference laid down in the Recruitment Rules is promotion, failing which absorption or deputation, failing both direct recruitment — which is why this circular is targeted only at officers already serving in the Port sector.

Age Limit

• The Recruitment Rules prescribe an upper age limit of 35 years for direct recruitment to this post.
• Since this vacancy is being filled through absorption/deputation from serving Port Authority officers, no separate age limit is prescribed in this notice.
• The crucial date for determining eligibility (qualification and experience) is the last date for receipt of applications, i.e. 11 September 2026.

Salary

• The selected officer will get a salary in the scale of Rs. 50,000 - Rs. 1,60,000 per month (Revised scale).
• The pre-revised scales for this post were Rs. 20,600-46,500 or Rs. 10,750-16,750.
• You will also get DA, HRA and other allowances as per Central Government rules.

Selection Process (No Written Exam)

There is no written exam or interview for this post. Here is how the process works:

1. Apply through OAP: Eligible officers apply through the Online Application Portal (OAP) of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways.
2. Forwarding by Parent Port: Your printed application, along with copies of educational qualifications, experience and a self-attested photo, must be forwarded by your current Port Authority.
3. Vigilance & Document Scrutiny: Your parent Port Authority attaches your ACRs/APARs for the last 5 years, vigilance/administrative clearance, a Head of Office certificate and your complete service particulars.
4. Scrutiny by ChPA: Chennai Port Authority verifies your qualifications, experience and documents against the Recruitment Rules.
5. Selection on Absorption/Deputation: The eligible officer is selected on absorption (permanent move to the ChPA cadre) or deputation (temporary posting while keeping lien on the parent cadre) basis, and appointed for a 2-year probation period.
