Chennai Customs Marine Wing Recruitment 2026 — 10 Posts
The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), under the Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance, is hiring for its Marine Wing at the Customs Preventive Commissionerate in Chennai. Tradesman (02 Posts)
- Education: 10th pass (Matriculation) or equivalent
- Essential: ITI Certificate in Mechanic/Diesel/Fitter/Turner/Welder/Electrician/Instrumental/Carpentry trade
- Experience: 2 years in Engineering/Automobile/Ship Repair organization
- Desirable: Experience in FRP Lamination and repair work (Fibre Glass Reinforced Plastic), Fire Fighting/Industrial Safety Course
Seaman (06 Posts)
- Education: 10th pass or equivalent
- Experience: 3 years in sea-going mechanized vessel with 2 years in helmsman and seamanship work
- Desirable: Certificate of competency as "Mate of Fishing Vessel" issued by the Marine Mercantile Department
Greaser (02 Posts)
- Education: 10th pass or equivalent
- Experience: 3 years in sea-going mechanized vessel on main and auxiliary machinery maintenance
- Desirable: Certificate of competency as "Engine Driver of Fishing Vessel" issued by the Marine Mercantile Department
Age Limit
- Tradesman: Not more than 25 years (relaxable for Government servants by 5 years as per instructions)
- Seaman: 18 to 25 years (relaxable as per Central Government instructions)
- Greaser: 18 to 25 years (relaxable as per Central Government instructions)
- Age relaxation for SC/ST: 5 years | OBC: 3 years | PwBD: 10 years | Ex-Servicemen: As per Government rules

Salary
- Tradesman: Pay Level 2 — Rs. 19,900 to Rs. 63,200 per month (7th CPC)
- Seaman: Pay Level 1 — Rs. 18,000 to Rs. 56,900 per month (7th CPC)
- Greaser: Pay Level 1 — Rs. 18,000 to Rs. 56,900 per month (7th CPC)
- In addition to basic pay, you will get Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), Transport Allowance, and other Central Government allowances as per rules

Selection Process
- Written Examination: Candidates who meet the eligibility criteria will be called for a written test
- Physical Endurance Test (PET): Swimming test, wherever applicable, as per the eligibility criteria
- Document Verification: Original certificates will be verified at this stage
- Medical Examination: Final selected candidates must pass a medical fitness test
Note: No Travelling Allowance (TA) will be paid for attending the written exam, PET, or document verification.

Responsibilities
- Handle maintenance, upkeep, and repair of all machinery, equipment, and departmental vessels in the Customs Marine Wing
- Assist the Engine Driver/Launch Mechanic for cleaning, maintenance, and smooth running of vessel machinery and equipment
- Keep watch duties on main and auxiliary machinery while the vessel is at sea and in harbour
- Manage rigging, mooring, and maintenance of boat anchors, ropes, fenders, and sailing equipment
- Work on daily maintenance and cleaning of decks, wheelhouses, and living quarters on marine vessels
- Follow safety protocols for sea operations including fire fighting and emergency procedures
- Assist in carrying out regular quarterly and half-yearly bottom maintenance of hull, launching, and hoisting of vessels
- Prepare and maintain vessel machinery equipment, spare parts, and repair records as directed by superior authorities

Minimum Qualification
10th Pass (Matriculation) with ITI Certificate (for Tradesman) or 3 years experience on sea-going mechanized vessel (for Seaman/Greaser)
Preferred Qualification
FRP Lamination and repair work experience, Fire Fighting/Industrial Safety Course (Tradesman); Certificate of competency as Mate of Fishing Vessel (Seaman); Certificate of competency as Engine Driver of Fishing Vessel (Greaser)

Exam Pattern
The selection for Chennai Customs Marine Wing posts will be based on the following stages:

- Physical Endurance Test (PET): A swimming test will be conducted wherever applicable as part of the physical fitness assessment.
