The Office of the District Judge, Balasore has released Advertisement No. 03 of 2026, dated 7 July 2026, inviting applications for 48 posts across three cadres in the Judgeship of Balasore under the Odisha District and Civil Courts' Judicial Staff Services Rules, 2008. No application fee is charged for any category — a rare benefit compared to most government recruitments. Category-wise reservation (combined across all three posts): SC 7, SC(Women) 2, ST 9, ST(Women) 4, SEBC 3, SEBC(Women) 1, UR 14, UR(Women) 8. There is also 33% intra-reservation for women candidates, subject to availability, and vacancy numbers in each category may increase or decrease before the exam.
Who Can Apply?
- Qualification: You must have passed at least +3 (graduation) or an equivalent examination from a recognized university.
- Computer Course: You must have at least a Diploma in Computer Application from a recognized institute.
- Language: You must be able to speak, read and write Odia and pass a test in Odia equivalent to the M.E. Standard.
- For Junior Typist: You need a minimum typing speed of 40 words per minute.
- For Stenographer Grade-III: You need a minimum speed of 80 words per minute in shorthand and 40 words per minute in typing.
- Character and health: You must be a citizen of India, of good character, and of sound health, physique and free from organic defects.
- Marital and legal status: You must not have more than one spouse living (if married) and must have no criminal proceeding pending against you.
- Government employees: If you are already in government service, you must apply through proper channel, informing your Head of Office in writing and obtaining a No Objection Certificate.
Age Limit
- You should be between 18 and 42 years old as on 7 August 2026, the last date fixed for receiving applications.
- Age Relaxation: The upper age limit is relaxed for reserved category candidates (SC/ST/SEBC/PWD/Ex-Servicemen) as per Odisha government rules in force.
Salary
- Junior Clerk & Copyist / Junior Typist: Rs. 19,900 to Rs. 63,200 per month (Pay Level-4).
- Stenographer Grade-III: Rs. 25,500 to Rs. 81,100 per month (Pay Level-7).
- You will also get usual DA and other allowances as admissible to Odisha state government employees from time to time.

Selection Process
Selection is done differently for each post, but broadly follows these stages:
- Written Exam: For Junior Clerk & Copyist — English (100 marks, 2 hours), Arithmetic (100 marks, 1 hour) and General Knowledge (100 marks, 1 hour). For Stenographer Grade-III and Junior Typist — English is qualifying in nature (100 marks, 2 hours).
- Shorthand & Typewriting Test: Only for Stenographer Grade-III (shorthand + typing, 50 marks) and Junior Typist (typing test, 50 marks), conducted after the written test results are published.
- Computer Science Test (Practical): 100 marks, 1 hour, testing formatting, tables, file handling, internet use and accounting software.
- Viva Voce Test: 45 marks for Junior Clerk & Copyist, 35 marks for Stenographer/Typist, assessing alertness and general outlook.
You need at least 35% marks in each written paper to qualify for the next stage (cut-off is 40% for SC/ST candidates in the Computer Science Test). The final merit list for Stenographer Grade-III and Junior Typist is based on the aggregate of the Shorthand/Typing test, Computer Science test and Viva Voce marks.

- Download Form-A (the prescribed application format) from the notification.
- Fill in all your personal, educational and category details in capital letters.
- Attach three self-attested colour photographs, self-attested copies of your certificates, two original character certificates, and two self-addressed envelopes stamped with Rs. 60 each.
