About This Job
Assam Rifles is hiring 12 General Duty Medical Officers (GDMO) on a contract basis. If you have an MBBS degree, have completed your compulsory rotary internship, and are registered with the State or National Medical Council, you can attend the walk-in interview. The walk-in is held from 4 to 8 June 2026 at Shillong. Salary is Rs. 75,000 per month.

The Directorate General Assam Rifles, under the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, has released a walk-in notification for 12 General Duty Medical Officer posts on a contractual basis. The selected doctors will work at Assam Rifles Hospitals and Assam Rifles Battalions across the Northeast. There is no written exam — selection is through a walk-in interview only. Fresh MBBS graduates and experienced doctors can both apply.

Who Can Apply?

Age Limit

- The contract will run for one year or until a regular incumbent joins or the appointee turns 67 years, whichever is earlier.
Salary
- Selected doctors will get a consolidated remuneration of Rs. 75,000 per month.
- You will get 30 days of leave per year during the contract period.
- No other allowance or grant will be paid. Government accommodation, transport, and ration or food are not provided.
- Non-practising allowance will not be admissible.
- No TA or DA will be paid for attending the walk-in interview.

Selection Process (No Written Exam)
Selection will be done in a single stage:
- Walk-in Interview: You need to appear in person at the Assam Rifles HQ DGAR, Laitkor, Shillong, on the scheduled date. The panel will check your MBBS degree, internship completion, medical council registration, and overall suitability.
- Document Verification: Original certificates will be checked at the venue. Non-production of original certificates will lead to disqualification.

- Paste a recent passport-size photograph in the space provided on the form.

Responsibilities
- Provide outpatient and inpatient medical care to Assam Rifles personnel and their dependents at the assigned hospital or battalion
- Diagnose common illnesses, prescribe medicines, and refer serious cases to specialist doctors
- Handle medical emergencies, accident cases, and field injuries reported at the unit
- Conduct routine medical examinations and fitness checks for serving personnel
- Maintain accurate medical records, case sheets, and prescription registers
- Supervise nursing assistants and paramedical staff during ward duty
- Reside in or near the duty station as required by the contract terms
- Follow Assam Rifles medical protocols and Ministry of Home Affairs guidelines
Eligibility Criteria
Minimum Qualification
MBBS degree from a recognised university with completed compulsory rotary internship and registration with State or National Medical Council
Required Skills
General medical practice, emergency care, OPD management, patient diagnosis, medical record keeping
