THSTI SiB Biodesign Fellow Recruitment 2026: Overview

BRIC-Translational Health Science and Technology Institute (THSTI), Faridabad, is selecting SiB (Biodesign) Fellows under Recruitment Notice THS/RN/15/2026. The fellowship belongs to the Inter-Institutional School of Diagnostic Innovation in Biodesign (SiB), set up at THSTI by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) and led by Prof. G. Karthikeyan. Its aim is simple: train a new pool of people who can invent affordable, easy-to-reach medical diagnostic tools and turn them into products and start-ups.

SiB is one of DBT's flagship programmes — it has already produced more than 35 medtech products and 20 start-ups. It runs in partnership with IIT Madras, Christian Medical College Vellore, PGI Chandigarh and Venture Center Pune, so fellows learn from both hospitals and engineering labs. If you love technology and want to build something that helps patients, this is a rare paid route into medtech innovation.

Posts and Disciplines

All four fellowships are posted at THSTI, Faridabad, and the programme is deliberately open to many backgrounds so that each team mixes different skills:

• Science: life sciences or chemistry postgraduates and PhDs who understand biology and lab testing.
• Engineering: engineering graduates and postgraduates who can design and build devices.
• Medicine: MBBS, BDS or BVSc graduates who bring clinical insight into real patient needs.
• Design: product or industrial design postgraduates who shape how a device looks and works.
• Business: MBA holders with a life science or engineering base who can take ideas to market.

Post-wise Duties

SiB (Biodesign) Fellow

As a fellow you will go through clinical immersion — spending time in clinical settings to spot unmet diagnostic needs — then move on to product innovation and entrepreneurship training. You will be exposed to every stage of a diagnostic product: development, validation, commercialisation and real-world use. The programme wants candidates who have already dabbled in innovation, design, social entrepreneurship or using science to help communities.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Short-term position: Extension depends on your performance and the project's tenure, and you cannot claim regular employment later.
• Crucial date: Your age, qualification and experience are judged as on the closing date of the online application.
• Experience rule: Experience counts only after you earned the minimum qualification.
• Vacancies may change: The number of fellowships can go up or down based on actual need at selection time.
• Communication: All updates come only by email and on the THSTI website, so check both often. Interview dates will be announced later.
• Relaxation: The competent authority may relax age, qualification or experience for otherwise suitable candidates.

Application Submission Notes

Applications are accepted only online through THSTI's recruitment portal — no other mode is accepted. Keep a Statement of Purpose ready, because shortlisting is based on it along with your eligibility. After you submit, you get an email with a reference number; save it and print the form from your dashboard. Once the fee is paid, you cannot edit the form.
