Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS), Regional Office Chandigarh, under the Ministry of Education, Government of India, has released a notice to empanel Hostel Superintendents on a purely contract basis for the academic session 2026-27. The posts cover Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas in Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir (U.T.), Ladakh (U.T.) and Chandigarh (U.T.). Selected candidates must stay inside the JNV campus since JNVs are fully residential schools — your job is to look after students 24x7.

Vacancies are tentative and subject to change. Posts will be filled across JNVs in Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, J&K (U.T.), Ladakh (U.T.) and Chandigarh (U.T.).

Who Can Apply?

Essential Academic Qualification

• Graduation in any discipline from a recognised university

Prior Work Experience (any one)

• Minimum 5 years experience in Pay Level 5 or above of 7th CPC (or equivalent scale) in any recognised residential school, OR
• Minimum 7 years experience on consolidated pay of not less than Rs. 29,200 per month in any recognised residential school, OR
• Ex-defence personnel with minimum 5 years experience in Pay Level 5 or above of 7th CPC, OR
• Minimum 3 years experience for candidates who have already worked in JNVs

Desirable Qualification

• Master's Degree or B.Ed
• Proficiency in regional language (verified during personal talk — no documents required)

Other Requirements

• Marital Status: Male and Female without encumbrances may be taken
• Health and fitness as per NVS norms applicable for regular appointment
• You must submit an experience certificate from your previous institution or defence establishment clearly mentioning the date of issuance

Age Limit

• Minimum age: 35 years as on 1 May 2026
• Maximum age: 62 years as on 1 May 2026
• Cut-off date for eligibility: 1 May 2026

Salary

• Consolidated monthly pay: Rs. 35,750 per month
• This is a purely contractual engagement — no regular pay scale or DA/HRA
• You will get free residential accommodation inside the JNV campus (since it is mandatory to stay on campus)

Selection Process (No Written Exam)

Selection is done without any written exam. The process has these stages:

1. Shortlisting: Eligible candidates are shortlisted on the basis of educational qualifications and other criteria fixed by the Samiti
2. Document Verification: Shortlisted candidates must bring self-attested photocopies of all documents along with originals, plus a Government-issued ID proof and its photocopy
3. Personal Talk (Interview): Held in physical mode at designated centres. Date and venue will be sent to your registered email ID. No TA/DA will be paid for attending the personal talk

Final empanelment depends on academic qualifications, higher qualification in the relevant field, work experience in recognised residential schools, and performance in the personal talk.

• Stay inside the JNV campus and supervise students round the clock as the school is fully residential
• Ensure cleanliness, hygiene and upkeep of dormitories, wash rooms, common areas and surroundings
• Look after the safety and security of students during non-academic hours, holidays and at night
• Distribute daily-use items, bedding, stationery and uniform to students and maintain proper records
• Manage daily routine — wake-up, study, meals, lights-off — and conduct night rounds for student safety
• Process student leave and out-pass applications and keep a day-wise record of out-passed and in-passed students
• Coordinate with House Masters, Vice Principal, Caretakers and Housekeeping staff for hostel operations
• Behave with affection, fairness and courtesy with students and parents, and report all issues to the Principal
