NILERD is hiring 13 faculty positions — Joint Director, Deputy Director, and Assistant Director — on a contract or deputation basis at its Narela, Delhi campus. NILERD Faculty Recruitment 2026 - 13 Posts

National Institute of Labour Economics Research and Development (NILERD) — an autonomous organisation under NITI Aayog, Government of India — has released a vacancy advertisement for 13 faculty positions across three levels. The appointment will be on contract with consolidated emoluments, or on deputation, initially for three years, extendable by two more years based on performance. Who Can Apply?

Joint Director (Rs. 1,45,000/month):

  • Qualification: Master's degree in Economics, Development Studies, Statistics, Engineering, Technology, Business Management, Public Policy, or any area in Social Sciences from a recognised university.
  • Experience: Minimum 8 years post-Master's experience in research or teaching at supervisory level in Govt/University/Autonomous Bodies/reputed research institutions.
  • Publications: At least 5 high-quality publications in peer-reviewed journals or edited books.
  • Desirable: Doctorate in relevant field, consultancy research project experience, SPSS skills.

Deputy Director (Rs. 1,25,000/month):

  • Qualification: Master's degree in Economics, Development Studies, Statistics, Engineering, Technology, Business Management, or any area in Social Sciences.
  • Experience: Minimum 5 years post-Master's experience in research or teaching at supervisory level.
  • Publications: At least 3 high-quality publications.

Assistant Director (Rs. 1,05,000/month):

  • Qualification: Master's degree in Economics, Development Studies, Statistics, Engineering, Technology, Business Management, or any area in Social Sciences.
  • Experience: Minimum 3 years post-Master's experience in research or teaching in Govt/University/Autonomous Bodies/reputed research institutions.

For Deputation Candidates:

  • Officers of Central/State Govt, University, Autonomous Bodies, or Research Institutions holding analogous post on regular basis, OR
  • Five years of regular service in the appropriate pay level below the post applied for.

Age Limit

  • Joint Director: Not less than 35 years, not exceeding 50 years (up to 56 years for deputation).
  • Deputy Director: Not less than 26 years, not exceeding 40 years (up to 56 years for deputation).
  • Assistant Director: Not less than 26 years, not exceeding 35 years (up to 56 years for deputation).
  • Age relaxation for SC/ST/OBC/EWS as per DoP&T/Govt of India rules.

Salary

  • Joint Director: Rs. 1,45,000 per month (contract) or Pay Level-12 (Rs. 78,800 - 2,09,200) on deputation.
  • Deputy Director: Rs. 1,25,000 per month (contract) or Pay Level-11 (Rs. 67,700 - 2,08,700) on deputation.
  • Assistant Director: Rs. 1,05,000 per month (contract) or Pay Level-10 (Rs. 56,100 - 1,77,500) on deputation.
  • Contractual employees will not get benefits like gratuity, leave encashment, CPF/NPS, or official transport.

Selection Process (No Written Exam)

Selection is based on:

  1. Shortlisting: Applications screened based on qualification, experience, and publications.
  2. Interview: Shortlisted candidates appear before the Selection Committee for personal interaction.
  3. Document Verification: Original certificates verified before final appointment.

Assistant Directors and Deputy Directors already working in NILERD on regular basis, if selected for higher posts, will be considered on promotion basis.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute research projects on labour economics, SDGs, structural reforms, and sustainable development
  • Prepare research proposals and bid for externally funded research and training assignments
  • Mentor junior researchers and supervise data collection, analysis, and report preparation
  • Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at national and international forums
  • Conduct training programmes on policy monitoring, evaluation, and econometric methods
  • Use statistical software like SPSS, STATA, and R for socio-economic data analysis
  • Support policy formulation through evidence-based studies for NITI Aayog and partner ministries
  • Represent NILERD in committees, workshops, and inter-institutional collaborations

Eligibility Criteria

Minimum Qualification

Master's degree in Economics, Development Studies, Statistics, Engineering, Technology, Business Management, Public Policy, or any area in Social Sciences from a recognised university

Preferred Qualification

Doctorate (Ph.D) in relevant subject; experience with Econometric/Statistical software like SPSS; experience in handling consultancy research projects on SDGs, structural reforms, sustainable development, and manpower planning
