The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research - National Geophysical Research Institute (CSIR-NGRI), Hyderabad has released Notification No. PP-06/2026 dated 15 May 2026 to fill up 11 project positions on a purely contractual basis. These positions are tied to three ongoing geophysical and geothermal research projects — engagement is co-terminus with the project and not a regular appointment. Freshers can apply for PA-II and PAT-I posts; the Senior PAT position requires 3 years of experience.

Vacancy Breakdown by Position

• Project Assistant-II (PA-II): 3 posts (1 each across three projects)
• Project Associate-I (PAT-I): 7 posts (3 for Geothermal project, 2 for UCIL Tailing Pond project, 2 for Maharashtra Gravity/Magnetic Survey)
• Senior Project Associate (Senior-PAT): 1 post (Geothermal project)

Who Can Apply?

Project Assistant-II (PA-II) - Rs. 20,000 + HRA

• Essential: B.Sc in Physics, Geology, Chemistry, Maths, or Computers
• Desirable: Basic computer knowledge and data handling skills

Project Associate-I (PAT-I) - Rs. 25,000 / Rs. 31,000 + HRA

• Essential: M.Sc / M.Sc (Tech) / M.Tech / M.S. / Integrated M.Tech / Integrated M.S. in Geophysics, Geology, Applied Geophysics, Applied Geology, Marine Geophysics, Exploration Geophysics, Geophysical Technology, Geosciences, or Earth Sciences
• Rs. 31,000 fellowship is paid to candidates who have qualified CSIR-UGC / ICAR / ICMR NET (with lectureship), GATE, or equivalent national-level tests by DBT/DST etc.

Senior Project Associate (Senior-PAT) - Rs. 42,000 + HRA

• Essential: M.Sc / M.Sc (Tech) / M.Tech in Geology, Geophysics, Applied Geophysics, Applied Geology, or Marine Geophysics
• Experience: Minimum 3 years in geophysical data acquisition (field), laboratory measurements, and subsurface modelling
• Desirable: Experience in heat flow investigations, laboratory measurements, and thermal modelling

Final-semester or final-year students awaiting results are NOT eligible to attend the interview.

Age Limit (as on date of interview)

• PA-II and PAT-I: Maximum 35 years
• Senior PAT: Maximum 40 years
• Age Relaxation: Up to 5 years for SC/ST/PwBD/Women; up to 3 years for OBC candidates

Salary

• Project Assistant-II (PA-II): Rs. 20,000 per month + HRA
• Project Associate-I (PAT-I): Rs. 25,000 per month + HRA (non-NET/GATE) or Rs. 31,000 per month + HRA (NET/GATE qualified)
• Senior Project Associate: Rs. 42,000 per month + HRA
• No TA/DA will be paid for attending the walk-in interview

Selection Process (No Written Exam)

Selection is based purely on a Walk-in / Online Interview:

1. Document Verification: Original certificates and self-attested photocopies will be checked at the venue or before the online interview.
2. Interview: An interview board will assess your subject knowledge, project-relevant skills, and experience.

The interview decides final selection. There is no written test.

• Acquire geophysical and geothermal data in the field across project sites
• Carry out laboratory measurements of rock samples and physical/mechanical properties
• Process and model geophysical data including gravity, magnetic, MASW, refraction and ERT data
• Prepare core samples and assist in geological analysis at NGRI labs
• Help with data entry, compilation and report preparation for project deliverables
• Participate in field surveys at UCIL mine area, Andhra Pradesh and parts of Maharashtra
• Support thermal modelling and lithospheric subsurface modelling for geothermal investigations
• Maintain field equipment and ensure proper handling of geophysical instruments
