Tezpur University Assistant Professor (Contractual) Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post

Tezpur University, a Central University established by an Act of Parliament and located at Napaam, Assam, has released Advertisement No. 18/2026 for one Assistant Professor position on a contractual basis in the Department of Mass Communication & Journalism, jointly for the department and the Centre for Distance and Online Education (CDOE). The engagement is for eleven (11) months or till the regular vacancy is filled, whichever is earlier, with a provision for further extension based on requirement and your performance. This is a joint teaching role — you will handle regular classroom teaching for the department as well as course delivery for CDOE's distance-learning programmes. Candidates with working experience in Open and Distance Learning (ODL) systems and good IT skills will be preferred.

Who Can Apply?

• Qualification: Master's degree with 55% marks (or equivalent grade on a point-scale) in a concerned/relevant/allied subject from an Indian University, or an equivalent degree from an accredited foreign university
• Additional requirement: Besides the above, you must have cleared the National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by the UGC or CSIR, or a similar UGC-accredited test like SLET/SET, or hold a Ph.D. degree awarded as per the UGC (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of M.Phil./Ph.D. Degree) Regulations, 2009 or 2016
• Ph.D. holders (registered before 11 July 2009) are exempted from NET/SLET/SET if all of the following are satisfied: (a) the Ph.D. was awarded in regular mode, (b) the thesis was evaluated by at least two external examiners, (c) an open Ph.D. viva voce was conducted, (d) at least two research papers from the Ph.D. work were published with one in a refereed journal, and (e) at least two papers based on the Ph.D. work were presented at conferences/seminars sponsored by UGC/ICSSR/CSIR or a similar agency
• Alternate route: A Ph.D. from a foreign university/institution ranked in the top 500 of the QS, THE, or ARWU (Shanghai) world rankings also qualifies, without needing NET/SLET/SET
• NET/SLET/SET is not required for Master's programmes in disciplines where the UGC/CSIR (or a similar UGC-accredited body) does not conduct such a test. In that case, SLET/SET is valid only as the minimum eligibility for direct recruitment in the respective state.
• Desirable: Working experience in the ODL system with good IT skills

Salary

• The selected candidate will get a fixed emolument of Rs. 80,000 per month.
• No other allowances are admissible for this contractual position.

Selection Process (No Written Exam)

Selection is done in 2 stages:

1. Screening: If a large number of candidates apply, you will be shortlisted for interview based on the Academic Score as per UGC Regulations 2018 (Appendix-II), out of a maximum of 100 marks: Graduation (up to 15), Post-Graduation (up to 25), M.Phil. (up to 7), Ph.D. (30), NET with JRF/NET/SLET-SET (up to 7), Research Publications in peer-reviewed/UGC-listed journals (up to 10), Teaching/Post-Doctoral Experience (up to 10), and Awards (up to 3 each for international/national level, up to 2 each for state level).
2. Interview: You must appear physically before the Selection Committee. Final selection is based only on your interview performance, not the academic score — the score is used only to decide who gets called for interview.
