The Kerala Public Service Commission (Kerala PSC) has released notification Category No. 073/2026 for 1 Assistant Professor in Neurosurgery post in the Medical Education Department, under the General Recruitment - Statewide category. This is a fresh vacancy filled through direct recruitment, and the ranked list published against this notification will remain in force for a minimum of one year and up to a maximum of three years, so candidates from the same list may be advised against further vacancies reported to the Commission during this period. 4% of the total vacancies reported are reserved for Differently Abled candidates as per Government Order (P) No. 5/2023/SJD. Neurosurgeons who already hold the required Kerala Medical Council registration and biomedical research training, and are looking for a stable teaching and clinical career in a government medical college, should apply for this post before the deadline.

Who Can Apply?

You are eligible for this post if you meet all of the following requirements:

• Qualification: M.Ch / DNB / DrNB in Neurosurgery
• Training: You must have completed the Basic Course in Biomedical Research from a medical institution recognized by the National Medical Commission
• Registration: You need Permanent Registration under the Kerala State Medical Council (TCMC) or the Council for Modern Medicine

Qualifications are as per NMC Regulations 2025 (Medical Institutions Qualifications of Faculty Regulations, 2025 dated 30 June 2025). Equivalent qualifications recognized by Government executive or standing orders are also accepted — proof must be produced when the Commission asks for it. You must first complete the One Time Registration (OTR) on the Kerala PSC website before you can apply for this or any other post.

Age Limit

• You should be between 22 and 49 years old. Only candidates born between 2 January 1977 and 1 January 2004 (both dates included) can apply for this post.
• Age Relaxation: Usual relaxation applies for Other Backward Communities and SC/ST candidates. See Part II, Para 2 of the General Conditions of the Gazette notification for other relaxation conditions.

Salary

• The pay scale for this post is as per UGC norms applicable to Assistant Professors in Medical Education institutions.
• You will also get DA, HRA and other allowances as per Kerala government rules.

Selection Process

Selection for this post is handled by the Kerala PSC based on the notification:

1. Written / OMR / Online Test (if conducted): If a test is held as part of this selection, you must submit a confirmation through your OTR profile to generate your admission ticket. Only candidates who confirm within the stipulated period can download their ticket, available in the last 15 days before the test date. Confirmation dates and other details will be published in the Kerala PSC Examination Calendar and sent to your registered profile and mobile number.
2. Document Verification: You must produce original documents proving your qualification, biomedical research training, medical council registration, age and community, as and when the Commission calls for them.

A ranked list of selected candidates will be published and stays valid for a minimum of one year, up to a maximum of three years. Selected candidates must serve 4 years within their first 10 years of service (including the training period) in Defence Services connected duties, anywhere in India or abroad, if required. This compulsory service condition does not apply to Differently Abled candidates or to those who have completed 45 years of age.

If your caste or community claimed in the application differs from what is recorded in your SSLC book, you must produce a Gazette Notification along with a Non-Creamy Layer or Community Certificate at the time of document verification. The Commission can also take disciplinary action under Rule 22 of the Kerala Public Service Commission Rules of Procedure against candidates who submit bogus claims about their qualifications or experience — this can lead to disqualification, debarment from applying to the Commission, or cancellation of your selection.
