Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) Project Engineer Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post

The Office of Industrial Consultancy and Sponsored Research (IC&SR), IIT Madras has released Advertisement No. ICSR/PR/Advt.136/2026 for 1 Project Engineer post under the Department of Engineering Design, coordinated by Prof. Venkatesh Balasubramanian. This is a temporary contract position initially for one year, extendable based on your performance, though it does not lead to regularization or permanency at the Institute. As Project Engineer, you'll analyse road infrastructure to spot safety hazards, carry out on-field Road Safety Audits and Blackspot Analysis across states, and suggest corrective measures based on road safety standards. Experienced road safety professionals with a civil or transportation engineering background are encouraged to apply.

Who Can Apply?

• Qualification: B.E./B.Tech or an equivalent engineering degree. Bachelor's, Master's, PhD or Postdoc holders in Civil or Transportation Engineering can also apply.
• Experience: You need at least 2 years of experience in Road Safety Audit. Only experience gained after your minimum qualifying degree will be counted.
• Preferred: Proven experience in road engineering, especially road audits and design, along with knowledge of design and visualization software used in road engineering.
• Skills: Project management and supervision skills, plus strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Nepal-domiciled candidates are also eligible, but need an eligibility certificate from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, before appointment.
• Meeting only the minimum qualification does not guarantee a call for the skill test or interview — the Institute can raise the bar depending on the number and quality of applications it receives.

Salary

• Selected candidates will get a salary of Rs. 30,000 to Rs. 50,000 per month, decided based on your qualification and experience.
• This is a consolidated monthly pay for the contract period — no separate allowances are mentioned in the notification.

Selection Process

The selection will be done in the following stages:

1. Shortlisting: Based on your qualifications, experience level, and academic achievements shown in your online application. The Institute can restrict the number of candidates called forward to a reasonable limit.
2. Skill Test / Interview: Shortlisted candidates will be called for a skill test and/or interview at IIT Madras. Being called for the test or interview does not by itself guarantee selection.
3. Document Verification: You must produce original certificates, and if you're currently working on another IIT Madras project, a No-Objection Certificate (NOC).

Candidates already employed on any project at IIT Madras must apply through the proper channel and carry an NOC to appear for the test or interview. Only shortlisted applicants will be contacted — the Institute will not respond individually about the conduct or result of the test/interview.
