Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) is hiring an Assistant Manager – Facilities for the Office of Industrial Consultancy and Sponsored Research (IC&SR). The role supports the operational readiness of office areas, meeting halls and event spaces used by the institute's sponsored-research and consultancy community. This is a contractual campus assignment coordinated by the Dean, IC&SR.

This position is broader than routine building maintenance. You will connect the facilities team, faculty, students, visitors, vendors and outside agencies, making sure spaces and services are ready when people need them. The notice particularly values someone who can combine service-minded communication with practical troubleshooting, team supervision and dependable follow-through.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Initial tenure: The contract begins with a one-year term. Any continuation depends on performance and the institute's requirement.
• No regular-status claim: Completing the contract does not create a right to extension, regularisation or permanent employment at IIT Madras.
• Campus work: The assignment is tied to the IC&SR premises at IIT Madras, Chennai, including offices, meeting rooms, event halls and related properties.
• Service responsibility: You will be expected to keep the workplace pleasant and operational while responding professionally to faculty, employees and visitors.
• Vendor interface: The work includes dealing with maintenance agencies and service providers, checking quotations and bills, tracking service quality and following up until issues close.
• Technical coordination: The notice includes planning for audio-visual layouts, video-conferencing systems and control setups in spaces such as boardrooms, auditoriums or museums.
• Experience counting: IIT Madras will count relevant work gained after the minimum qualifying degree. It may relax the minimum standard for an exceptionally strong profile.
• SC/ST consideration: The institute may relax the experience condition for SC or ST candidates if enough applicants with the stated experience are not available for a reserved opening.
• Current IIT Madras project staff: If you already work on an institute project, apply through the proper channel or carry a No Objection Certificate when called.
• Shortlisting: IIT Madras may limit the number called by comparing qualification level, relevance of experience and academic record. Only shortlisted applicants will be contacted.
