IDRBT Assistant and Associate Professor Recruitment 2026: Overview

The Institute for Development and Research in Banking Technology (IDRBT), set up by the Reserve Bank of India in 1996, is hiring Assistant Professors and Associate Professors for its campus at Masab Tank, Hyderabad. This is the institute that built national banking platforms such as NEFT, RTGS, SFMS and the National Financial Switch, so faculty here work where research meets live banking technology. Posts and Disciplines

• Assistant Professor Grade II: the entry grade for recent PhD holders. If you have submitted your PhD thesis and are waiting for the degree, you can also be considered on merit.
• Assistant Professor Grade I: for researchers who already have a solid post-PhD publication record in reputed journals and conferences.
• Associate Professor: a senior faculty role for people who have guided PhD students, taught at higher educational institutions and built a strong research record. Candidates coming from industry may get relaxation on the PhD supervision and teaching conditions.

When you apply, you can pick up to three preferred work areas from this list:

• AI and data analytics, including frontier AI models and emerging scenarios
• Responsible, explainable and interpretable AI models
• Post-quantum cryptography
• Next-generation service delivery architecture
• Programmable and layered blockchain, zero-knowledge proofs and related work
• Information systems and cyber security

The split between the two ranks is flexible — the institute may move posts between Assistant and Associate Professor depending on the expertise and experience of the people who apply, while the overall total stays the same.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Banking focus: IDRBT wants faculty with a keen interest in banking and financial technology, not only in academic research.
• PhD-period experience does not count: only teaching, research or professional experience gained outside your PhD years is counted. In exceptional cases, someone with less experience may still be considered at an adjusted salary.
• Shortlisting: meeting the minimum criteria does not guarantee an interview call. The institute screens applications and calls only those it finds suitable.
• Relocation support: travel and relocation costs are reimbursed only if you serve the institute for at least two years.
• Interview travel: travel within India for the interview is reimbursed as per institute norms.
• Government employees: apply through proper channel, or bring a no-objection certificate from your employer if you are called for interview.
• Cooling period: once you apply under this rolling advertisement, you cannot apply again for at least one year. This applies to internal and external candidates alike.
• Accuracy: if any information in your application is later found wrong, your candidature can be cancelled or the appointment ended.
