Who Can Apply?

• Qualification: You need a Master's degree in Chemistry (or a closely related/allied subject) with at least 55% marks (or an equivalent grade) from a recognised Indian university, or an equivalent degree from an accredited foreign university.
• NET/SET Requirement: Along with your Master's, you must have cleared UGC-NET, CSIR-NET, or an equivalent SLET/SET examination.
• Ph.D Exemption: If you already hold a Ph.D. awarded under the UGC (Minimum Standards for M.Phil/Ph.D) Regulations 2009 or 2016, you are exempted from NET/SLET/SET — provided your Ph.D. was awarded in regular mode, evaluated by at least two external examiners, cleared through an open viva voce, and backed by at least two published research papers (one in a refereed journal) presented at UGC/ICSSR/CSIR-supported conferences.
• Foreign Ph.D. Route: A Ph.D. from a foreign university ranked in the top 500 globally by QS, THE, or ARWU also qualifies you, even without NET/SLET/SET.

Salary

• You will get a monthly remuneration of Rs. 47,000 if you hold a Ph.D., or Rs. 45,000 if you do not, effective from 1 July 2026.
• This is a consolidated tenure-basis salary — the notification does not mention separate DA/HRA allowances.
• You become eligible for gratuity under the Payment of Gratuity Act, 1972, once you complete five years of continuous service (the five-year condition does not apply in case of death or disablement).
• Your tenure period, including vacations, counts as continuous service, but you will not get separate remuneration for examination duties like invigilation and paper valuation during vacation.
• You will sign a formal service agreement with the University spelling out the terms and conditions of your appointment.
• If you want to resign, you need to give three months' notice (or one month, if recommended by the Department Council). Resigning without notice means paying the University three months' salary (or one month's, if recommended).
• Note: experience gained on tenure/contract appointments is currently not counted towards future appointments or promotions under existing UGC norms, since the consolidated salary is less than regular UGC pay.

Selection Process (No Written Exam)

CUSAT does not conduct a written exam for this post. Your selection goes through these steps:

1. Screening of Applications: Your qualifications, mark lists, and documents are checked against the eligibility criteria.
2. Interview: Shortlisted candidates are called for an interview, assessed as per UGC Regulations 2018 selection criteria.
3. Rank List: The University's Selection Committee finalises a rank list based on your interview performance. This list stays valid for two years.
4. Reappointment: If you complete this five-year tenure, you can reapply through a fresh notification and selection process. Existing tenure faculty are considered on par with new applicants based on the Selection Committee's recommendation.
