Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) is recruiting a Course-in-Charge for the Kunjali Marakkar School of Marine Engineering in Kochi. This is a tenure-based faculty leadership role connected to a non-vacation marine-engineering school, so the position combines academic coordination with the professional standards expected in maritime education. The notice is aimed at experienced marine engineers and senior teachers, with seagoing command experience or substantial teaching experience forming the main professional routes.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Tenure and review: The first tenure runs for five years. Your work is reviewed annually by the department, with a wider university review in the third year; continuation depends on satisfactory academic performance.
• Non-vacation status: Kunjali Marakkar School of Marine Engineering is a non-vacation department, so the appointee does not receive the vacation benefit available in vacation departments.
• Performance: Unsatisfactory annual work or a breach of university rules can lead to termination under the applicable rules.
• Fresh selection after tenure: Completion of the first tenure does not bring automatic renewal. CUSAT will issue a fresh notice and run another selection, and the serving faculty member may compete again on the same basis as other applicants.
• Academic contribution: The appointee may co-supervise PhD scholars under university rules and is encouraged to take up research projects, publish scholarly work, and contribute to the university's research environment.
• Service agreement: The selected person must sign a formal agreement recording the terms of the tenure appointment.
• Exit terms: Resignation normally needs three months' notice. The period may be reduced to one month when recommended by the Department Council, while leaving without the required notice attracts salary recovery for the applicable period.
• Career-credit caveat: CUSAT says tenure or contract teaching experience is currently not counted for appointment or promotion under the cited Government and UGC norms because the fixed pay is below the corresponding UGC gross package.
• Governing rules: Reservation orders, Kerala service rules, university statutes and Syndicate decisions apply. The proceedings also remain subject to any related decision of the Kerala High Court, and the published rank list remains valid for two years.
