CSL Intern Recruitment 2026: Overview

Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL), a Government of India Miniratna Schedule A company, is engaging interns under the Prime Minister Internship Scheme (PMIS). The programme brings together shop-floor trades, technical diplomas, office support, healthcare, hospitality and language work in a single shipyard training drive. It is training for a fixed nine-month period, not a regular CSL appointment or a promise of later employment.

The range of disciplines makes this drive useful if you are beginning work after school, an ITI course, a diploma, graduation or a relevant postgraduate degree. You should choose the stream that matches your certificate and be ready for practical work in an industrial shipyard environment. CSL may adjust the training intake according to its operational needs and the facilities available.

Posts and Disciplines

• Core fabrication and mechanical trades: electrician, fitter, welder, machinist, sheet-metal, diesel, pipe-fitting, plumbing, marine-fitting and refrigeration streams support production and maintenance work.
• Drawing, instruments and electronics: draughtsman, electronic mechanic, instrument mechanic and auto-electrical streams focus on drawings, measurement, control equipment and electrical systems.
• Surface, access and wood trades: painter, grinder, scaffolder, shipwright and carpenter streams support safe access, finishing and structural outfitting.
• Warehouse support: the warehouse-assistant stream covers stores handling, stock movement and basic records.
• Diploma disciplines: civil, electrical, electronics, instrumentation and mechanical engineering sit alongside catering, pharmacy and nursing routes.
• Office and language streams: clerical graduates support routine administration, while the Hindi postgraduate stream supports official-language work and translation.

Post-wise Duties

ITI and Shop-floor Interns

You will learn safe tool use, assist trained workers and complete trade-specific fabrication, repair or maintenance tasks under supervision. Daily work will depend on the trade and the production area assigned to you.

Warehouse Assistant Interns

You will help receive, identify and move materials while keeping basic stock and issue records. Accuracy and safe material handling are important in this stream.

Engineering Diploma Interns

You will support drawings, inspections, measurements and technical records in the department matching your diploma. The focus is practical exposure to shipyard engineering systems, not independent approval authority.

Catering, Pharmacy and Nursing Diploma Interns

You will assist the relevant support unit with service, stock, safety and routine records appropriate to your discipline. Work must follow the unit's hygiene and professional procedures.

Clerical and Hindi Interns

You will help with files, data, correspondence and office coordination. Hindi interns may also support official-language drafting and translation work under the responsible team.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• No employment claim: completing the internship does not give you a right to a job with CSL, and the company has no obligation to offer one.
• Other training: you cannot join if you are already in a government skill, apprenticeship, internship or training scheme, or previously completed training under NATS or NAPS.
• Family conditions: the PMIS restrictions cover family income and regular government employment in the family; check these carefully before registering.
• Excluded qualifications: the notice excludes specified graduates from certain national institutions and holders of listed professional or advanced degrees.
• Personal expenses: CSL will not provide travel costs, boarding or lodging for verification or during training.
• Provisional candidature: selection remains subject to original-certificate, character, antecedent, caste and medical-fitness checks.
• Jurisdiction: disputes connected with the notice or selection fall under the courts and forums at Ernakulam.

Application Submission Notes

Applications are handled through the PMIS portal. Read the candidate user manual available on that portal before entering your details, especially your marks and qualification stream. A mismatch between the marks entered online and the certificate can lead to rejection, so use the exact figures shown on your record.

CSL will communicate internship offers and later updates through the PMIS account rather than by post. Check the portal regularly after applying and use its support channel for technical problems. Questions from CSL about your certificates should be answered only through the email route identified in the notification.
