CSIR-Central Scientific Instruments Organisation (CSIR-CSIO) is engaging a Project Associate-I or Project Associate-II in Chandigarh for sponsored R&D project SSP0071, which focuses on designing and developing holographic optical elements for a holographic aiming sight. The level offered will depend on the selected person's suitability and relevant experience. This is a specialised optics assignment: it is aimed at researchers who can contribute to holography, interferometry, optical design and computer-generated holography rather than a general science-support role. The recruitment may also create a waitlisted panel for later requirements under the same project.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Project term: The engagement is temporary, contractual and co-terminus with the sponsored project, whose tentative duration runs up to 06.02.2028. Continuation is never automatic merely because you are selected.
• Performance review: CSIR-CSIO may review your work at intervals such as 3/6 months. Any extension depends on performance, the project mandate and continuing need.
• Level placement: The institute will decide whether the selected person joins at Project Associate-I or Project Associate-II after checking qualification, qualifying-test status and post-qualification research experience. Only experience gained after the minimum prescribed qualification is counted.
• Aggregate CSIR tenure: Candidates who have already completed the applicable 06/07-year limit in project roles at CSIR-CSIO or another CSIR laboratory are not eligible. If you have served for less than that limit, the remaining allowable period controls your tenure.
• Discipline match: You must hold the essential qualification in the required area. Applicants awaiting their qualifying result are not eligible, and a claimed equivalent qualification must be supported by the competent authority's formal order or letter.
• Facilities: Campus accommodation is subject to availability, while food and other campus amenities may be available. Medical support through the CSIR-CSIO dispensary is limited to the selected person and does not extend to family members or dependants.
• Selection caveats: When applications are numerous, the committee may use academic marks, higher or desirable qualifications, relevant experience, a written test or another suitable criterion to shortlist people for interview. No travel allowance is paid for attending an interview.
• Waiting panel and joining: A waiting panel may remain valid for one year. A selected person is expected to join promptly after medical examination and character verification and must place a refundable security deposit equal to fifteen days' stipend at joining.
• Vacancy discretion: CSIR-CSIO may change the requirement or decide not to fill the position. Preference may be given to SC, ST, OBC or PwBD applicants when other qualifications are equal, to support representation.
