ChPA Pilot Recruitment 2026: Overview

Chennai Port Authority (ChPA) is hiring a Pilot on contract for its Marine Department in Chennai. The notice sets out a training and licensing route for the engagement, with separate provisions for pilots who already hold a licence from an Indian major port. Service Conditions and Caveats

• Initial training: You will complete six months of on-the-job training. The port will also send you to the Indian Maritime University (IMU) for a 15-day entry-level pilot training programme and meet its training fees.
• Service commitment: Before or when you join as a trainee, you must sign a bond to serve Chennai Port for at least three years after successfully completing training and licensing. Read this commitment alongside the deposit and forfeiture conditions before accepting the engagement.
• Security deposit: The trainee must arrange a fixed security deposit of Rs. 3,00,000 in a nationalised bank, authorised in the name of the Chairman, Chennai Port Authority. The port will keep custody of the deposit.
• Training-related forfeiture: If you cannot complete training and pass the pilot examination for reasons attributable to you, the port will forfeit the fixed deposit together with its interest.
• Bond completion: Leaving without completing the bond period leads to forfeiture of the fixed deposit. The notice provides for its return after you successfully complete the three-year bond period.
• Already licensed pilots: Prior pilotage experience at an Indian major port may allow you to handle vessels up to the gross registered tonnage you previously handled. This depends on adequate training or familiarisation at Chennai, passing the port's pilot examinations and receiving a Chennai Port pilot licence from the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways.
• Leave: The contract provides 12 days of casual leave and 30 days of earned leave per year. These are worked out proportionately for each completed calendar month of contract service.
