Viluppuram Eminent Senior Advocate Recruitment 2026: Overview

The District Collector and District Magistrate, Viluppuram is building a panel of Eminent Senior Advocates who will conduct prosecution in the Special Courts and Exclusive Special Courts set up under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989 in Viluppuram district. The panel is formed under Rule 4(1) of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Rules, 1995, following directions of the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court and a Home (Courts) Department order issued in January 2026.

This is not a regular government post. It is an empanelment of practising lawyers who take up atrocity cases for the State. If you already handle criminal trials in Tamil Nadu and have worked on SC/ST (POA) Act cases, this panel is written for you. Fresh law graduates and advocates without criminal-court practice will not fit the notice.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Nature of engagement: You join a panel of Senior Advocates, not a salaried cadre post. The notice does not mention a fee, retainer or pay scale, so check the terms with the Collectorate before you accept.
• Continuous practice: Your practice as an advocate must be continuous. A long break in practice can go against your claim, so keep your enrolment and court appearance records ready.
• Criminal-case experience: The notice specifically wants lawyers with sufficient experience in criminal cases, especially cases under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
• Where you practise: Only advocates practising in the courts of Tamil Nadu are called to apply.
• End of empanelment: Your place on the panel ends automatically when you reach the upper age limit, unless the Government specifically orders otherwise.
• Area of work: Cases are conducted before the Special Courts and Exclusive Special Courts in Viluppuram district.

Application Submission Notes

There is no online form for this panel. Fill in the prescribed application form given as Annexure I and Annexure II with the notification, and send it in six copies with two passport-size photographs to the District Collector, Collector Office, Viluppuram.

Your application has to reach the Collector Office by the closing date — anything that arrives after 5:45 PM on the last day will not be considered. Posting on the last day is risky, so hand it in personally or send it early. The notification carries the reference R.O.C. No. C1/4569556/2026; quoting it on your cover letter helps the office trace your papers.
