UCSL Technician Diploma Apprentice Recruitment 2026: Overview

Udupi Cochin Shipyard Limited (UCSL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, is taking in Technician (Diploma) Apprentices for its shipyard at Malpe, Karnataka. The training lasts one year under the Apprentices (Amendment) Act, 1973. It is an apprenticeship with a monthly stipend and meals allowance, not a permanent post.

The notice is titled for Graduate and Technician (Diploma) Apprentices, but the only training seats it lists are for diploma holders in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering. It is open to candidates who passed their diploma in 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025 or 2026. Unlike UCSL's ITI apprentice drive, this notice does not restrict applicants to one state.

Posts and Disciplines

• Mechanical Engineering: for diploma holders who want hands-on training in hull fabrication support, machinery fitting and yard maintenance work.
• Electrical Engineering: for diploma holders who want to train on ship electrical systems, power distribution and yard electrical maintenance.

Post-wise Duties

Mechanical Engineering Apprentice

You will support engineers on mechanical fitting, machinery installation and maintenance jobs, and learn how shipbuilding work is planned and checked on the shop floor.

Electrical Engineering Apprentice

You will assist with electrical installation, testing and maintenance on vessels and yard equipment, and learn the safety practices used on board ships.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Previous training: if you have already done, or are now doing, an apprenticeship under the Apprentices (Amendment) Act, 1973 in any government, public sector or private organisation, you cannot apply.
• Equivalent qualifications: you must produce an equivalency certificate from the competent authority, or your candidature will not be considered.
• Reservation: Government of India reservation rules for SC, ST, OBC and PwBD candidates apply.
• Original certificates: if you cannot show your originals at certificate verification, your candidature is rejected.
• No job guarantee: UCSL has no obligation to employ you after the apprenticeship.
• No travel or boarding help: UCSL gives no travel expenses or lodging during the training period.
• Marks entry: if the marks you enter differ from your uploaded mark sheet, the application is rejected.
• Legal disputes: any case about this notice can be filed only in courts at Udupi.

Application Submission Notes

You apply through the NATS portal (nats.education.gov.in). If you had an account on the old portal (portal.mhrdnats.gov.in), activate it on the new portal using the forgot password option on the student login page and complete your profile. New users register as a student to get an enrolment number.
