Spices Board Trainee QEL Chemistry Recruitment 2026: Overview

Spices Board, under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, is selecting candidates for its Trainee (QEL Chemistry) programme at the Quality Evaluation Laboratory in Spices Park, Puttady, Idukki district, Kerala. This recruitment is reserved exclusively for Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates. Selected trainees get hands-on exposure to the chemical analysis of spices and spice products — useful grounding for a career in food and agri-quality testing. Candidates with a Chemistry background who have not trained with the Board before can apply.

Service Conditions and Caveats

  • Reservation: This training is open only to SC/ST category candidates.
  • Repeat candidates: Anyone who has already completed, or even attended, training at any Spices Board office or Quality Evaluation Laboratory cannot apply again.
  • Tenure: One year from the date of joining, extendable by one more year based on requirement and performance.
  • Leave: You get one day of leave per month during the training.
  • Regularisation: This is a training assignment only — it does not lead to a regular Spices Board appointment at any stage.
  • Travel allowance: No TA/DA is paid for attending the written test.

Responsibilities

  • Perform chemical analysis of spice and spice-product samples in the lab
  • Follow standard testing protocols for quality evaluation
  • Record test results and maintain lab registers accurately
  • Handle lab instruments and reagents safely
  • Support senior chemists during sample testing and instrument calibration
  • Follow all safety and quality-control guidelines at the laboratory

Minimum Qualification

Bachelor of Science degree with Chemistry as one of the major subjects, or a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry from a recognized university or equivalent.
