SGPGIMS Senior and Junior Resident Recruitment 2026: Overview

Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS), Lucknow, is filling Senior Resident Hospital Services and Junior Resident Non-Academic positions through its rolling short-term appointment system. The current seat matrix is focused mainly on services under the Apex Trauma Centre, where doctors support urgent patient care alongside specialists from several clinical departments. This is an in-person walk-in drive, not the institute's separate regular resident entrance process.

The engagement is designed to keep essential hospital services running while regular appointments are pending. Most appointments are for 89 days or until a regular appointee joins, whichever happens first. If your performance is satisfactory and a suitable category seat remains available, the institute may consider further short-term terms under the rolling-advertisement rules.

Posts and Disciplines

• Forensic Medicine: Senior Resident work supporting medico-legal and trauma-related services under the Apex Trauma Centre.
• Trauma Surgery: Senior Resident work in acute surgical assessment, emergency procedures and trauma-team coordination; the PDAF-linked appointments carry a separate tenure condition.
• Psychiatry: Senior Resident support for mental-health assessment and care within the trauma setting.
• Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation: Senior Resident work involving rehabilitation planning, functional assessment and follow-up care.
• Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery: Senior Resident duties for facial, jaw and oral trauma cases.
• Emergency Medicine: Senior Resident or Junior Resident service in emergency assessment, stabilisation and referral; a seat may be offered at Junior Resident level when no suitable Senior Resident is available.

Post-wise Duties

Senior Resident Hospital Services

You will take part in specialist patient care, clinical decision-making and emergency coverage in your allotted department. You may also support teaching, training and research work connected with hospital services.

Junior Resident Non-Academic

You will help with initial assessment, ward and emergency documentation, routine clinical procedures and coordination with senior doctors. The focus is service delivery and supervised clinical care rather than enrolment in an academic residency programme.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Short-term tenure: Each appointment normally lasts up to 89 days, with further terms governed by seat availability, category rules, performance and the department head's recommendation.
• Trauma Surgery tenure: The PDAF-linked Trauma Surgery appointments can continue for a maximum of one year.
• Reservation: UP Government rules apply, and reservation benefits are limited to candidates with Uttar Pradesh domicile. Other-state reserved-category candidates are treated as unreserved.
• Category conversion: An unfilled reserved seat may move to another category in the order stated by the institute so essential patient-care services are not left vacant.
• Campus residence: Selected residents must live on campus in the semi-furnished hostel provided under institute policy.
• Joining: The appointment offer is sent by email, and you must join within the period stated in that offer or the seat can pass to the next person on the waiting list.

Application Submission Notes

Bring the filled prescribed form to the office of the department concerned for document verification between 10:30 and 13:30. The walk-in interview is scheduled at the School of Telemedicine, Second Floor, SGPGIMS, Lucknow, between 14:00 and 16:00.

You must appear in person with your originals and two photocopy sets. Carry the payment receipt with its reference number entered on the form, and make sure your category certificate follows the applicable UP Government format.

• Assist with teaching, training, and departmental academic work
